Missouri forward DeMarre Carroll, nephew of basketball coach Mike Anderson, was shot in the ankle in front of Club Tropicana in downtown Columbia, Mo., at 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Carroll, a transfer from Vanderbilt, who sat out last season because of NCAA transfer eligibility rules, was treated at a hospital and released.

"Our main concern is for the safety of the victims involved, including DeMarre, but it sounds like everyone is going to be fine," Anderson said in a prepared statement. "This was a scary situation for DeMarre, and one we will help him through. We are just very grateful the injuries suffered by everyone involved don't appear to be life-threatening."

A 23-year-old man was shot in the side during the gunfire. His injuries also are not thought to be life threatening. It is unclear who the target of the shooting was, and the shooter remains at large.

Club Tropicana is located near the MU campus at 808 Cherry St.

Mizzou is my favorite school, so I'm mad. He is suppossed to be a big part of our team. There are more important things right now than sports. He's just lucky he was shot in the ankle.

Besides, if it was, it didn't say he was leaving the club. He could have just been walking down the street.
