And apparently, he likes to pay women to go down on him. The DC madam's phone records have been released and Sen. David Vitter, R-La., has already apologized for his numbers being on the list.

Sen. Vitter apologizes for ‘a very serious sin in my past’

WASHINGTON - Sen. David Vitter, R-La., apologized Monday night for “a very serious sin in my past” after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called “D.C. Madam.”
Vitter’s spokesman, Joel Digrado, confirmed the statement in an e-mail sent to The Associated Press.
“This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible,” Vitter said in the statement. “Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.”
The statement containing Vitter’s apology said his telephone number was on old phone records of Pamela Martin and Associates before he ran for the Senate.
Deborah Jeane Palfrey was accused in federal court of racketeering by running a pros ution ring that netted more than $2 million over 13 years, beginning in 1993. She contends, however, that her escort service, Pamela Martin and Associates, was a legitimate business.
Vitter, 46, a Republican in his first Senate term, was elected to the Senate in 2004. He represented Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District in the House from 1999 to 2004.
Vitter and his wife, Wendy, live in Metairie, La., with their four children.
Palfrey’s attorney, Montgomery Blair Sibley, told the AP, “I’m stunned that someone would be apologizing for this already.” He said Palfrey had posted the names of her escort service’s clients online Monday, but he did not know whether Vitter’s name was among them.
The AP was unable to connect to Palfrey’s Web site Monday night.
Earlier this year Palfrey, 51, of Vallejo, Calif., asked the Supreme Court to delay the criminal case against her — a request the court denied in May. Her attorney had argued that it was unfair to proceed against Palfrey because her assets remain seized in a civil forfeiture case, meaning she lacks the money to hire an attorney of her choice.
Randall Tobias, a senior official in the State Department, resigned in April after ABC News confronted him about his use of the escort service. He admitted that he had hired women to come to his Washington condo and give him massages but denied that he had sex with the escorts.

In all honesty I think everyone deserves a second chance. There are some instances where this would not be ture however this guy made a mistake and has owned up to it. Of course had this been a dem we would have all of the righties on the board hammering democrats in general... I take the high road..
Maybe he just needed someone to talk to
crickets to the right
Or maybe we should just make blanket claims about republicans in general because of Vitter's mistake?
I hear the answer from the right.
vitter is a closet liberal. It's the dems fault, again. Blame clinton.
No, the answer from the right is that this guy acknowledged that he was in the wrong, he has apologized to everyone including his wife and he has taken responsibility for his actions.
If a liberal would have done this, he would have denied it, made up an excuse, and then continued to win election after election.
And the blanket lib statements begin.... what took you so long john?
I notice that this guy is from the holier than thou party... the party of morals..
Why would he do that? Oh yeah, he got caught. I wonder how many hookers we bought for this guy?
John, the whole thing with Vitter is the hypocrisy he shows when talking up "family values" and cons utional marriage amendments.

Hypocritical, wouldn't you say?
And if you say that he made his mistakes, did his penance and should be allowed to learn from those mistakes and better govern, then that needs to be afforded to everybody, regardless of party.

Vitter Statement on Protecting the Sanc y of Marriage
“This is a real outrage. The Hollywood left is redefining the most basic ins ution in human history, and our two U.S. Senators won’t do anything about it.
We need a U.S. Senator who will stand up for Louisiana values, not Massachusetts’s values. I am the only Senate Candidate to coauthor the Federal Marriage Amendment; the only one fighting for its passage. I am the only candidate proposing changes to the senate rules to stop liberal obstructionists from preventing an up or down vote on issues like this, judges, energy, and on and on.” stated David Vitter.
Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. You guys act like he's the only one guilty and that the only guilty ones will be from the right side of the aisle.
When the smoke clears on this, neither side will be able to claim the moral high ground, and it's lame for you and clambake to try and come off righteous about it.
I think Vitter should resign in disgrace.
So this guy had the balls to confess to his wife, his priest, and others in marriage counselling -- obviously doing what he thought was right to save his family, and then fights in Congress for the values of family and marriage that he worked so hard to save in his personal life, in spite of the pain it caused him and his wife, and now he's a hypocrite????
I don't follow the logic.....
It's not about left or right, Aggie. It's about a guy that preaches the sanc y of marriage and uses taxpayer money to get off.
Whatever I do in my glass house won't cost you a cent.
But, as AHF said, "those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."
Vitter lobbed many at infidelity, single-parent households, gay couples, etc.
If he was a profligate at the time he attacked all that stuff, then I agree about the glass-house/hypocrite judgement. But It seems to me that he firmed up his own house after almost destroying it himself. Maybe that makes him even a little bit better able to discern the truth in the issues and fight for that truth.
As far as other people being afforded the same leniency/forgiveness -- that's fine. I guess you are talking about the other names on the list. But I would bet that some names on that list haven't "manned up" like this guy has in the past.
BTW --- this is the first time I've found myself sticking up for a lawmaker.![]()

I know nothing about this guy except the press blurb that was posted here. Being a congressman, chances are that he's a totally amoral
I'm not just talking about other names on the list specifically, but you summed up what I'm thinking. You can either have hypocrites or people who learn from their mistakes (but still pay their respective consequences), but again, that needs to be afforded to everybody if we so choose.
bush needs to commute the madam's prison sentence before she starts dropping dimes on half of his admin.
I've seen it mentioned online (and take it for what its worth since I'm not providing a link).
Vitter apparently withdrew from the Louisiana governor's race in 2002 citing marital issues.“I think Livingston’s stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess,”
-David Vitter, comments of Rep. Bob Livingston (R-LA), who “abruptly resigned after disclosures of numerous affairs” in 1998.
