Suns Sign Marks to One-Year Contract
By Jerry Brown
East Valley Tribune
July 11, 2007
The Suns will re-sign center Sean Marks to a one-year deal which will be officially announced today.
Marks, who confirmed the deal, will be paid the veteran’s minimum of $1.244 million this season. Only $779,000 of that total will count against the salary cap — or more importantly to Phoenix, the luxury tax threshold. The remainder will be paid by a league fund designed to augment veteran minimum contracts.
With rookie Alando Tucker signed and Grant Hill’s free agent signing also made official today, the Suns have 12 players under contract for next season.
Teams are allowed to carry 15 players but the Suns have historically carried no more than 13 or 14 and salary concerns will ensure that this season.
Second-round draft pick D.J. Strawberry and two of his Vegas Summer League teammates, free agent big men Pape Sow and Otis George, are in the mix.
Marks, who will be 32 on Aug. 23, played in only three regular season games last season (six points and three rebounds in 17 minutes.)
He expressed disappointment in his playing time and opportunities but said the fun he had with his teammates and the chance to play for a winner was a much stronger feeling.
“You weigh the options you have and this was the best one for me and my family. We had such a great time with Phoenix last year,” he said.
“I think we had a great team last year and it looks like we’ll be even better with some of the changes we’ve made.
“With (new GM) Steve Kerr running things and guys like Grant Hill coming aboard, we’re very strong.
“Whether my name is called or I wind up making the team better as a practice player, I’ll do everything I can in a supporting role.”
Marks has played eight seasons in the NBA, appearing in 108 total games.
His best season was 2005-06, when he averaged 3.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 25 games for San Antonio.
I havent seen Marks play even just one second in the season. Did he play in the playoffs at all against the Spurs?
I don't think so. (Too lazy to look it up!)
And over eight seasons he's only played in 108 games anyway.
Lolololololololololololol...hahahahahahahahahahah. ..heheheheheheheheh..
You gotta love this line:
He expressed disappointment in his playing time and opportunities but said the fun he had with his teammates and the chance to play for a winner was a much stronger feeling.
Decent pickup by the Suns. Garbage time insurance.
THE WHITE SPURS!
loved it

Not really a pick-up, he was already there.
Oh no with Marks and Hill we are in trouble........LMAO. We should start a vbookie on how many Suns Spurs games will Hill and Mark both be wearing Suits
Cancel the ing season. 2007-08 NBA Champion Phoenix Suns.
Good guy, happy for him that he gets to be in the NBA another year
I miss the days when Marks would come off the bench during garbage time and drain jumpers and the rest of the team would go crazy.
Cherish him Suns fans.
Oh yah...I forgot. Guess that goes to show what an "impact player" he was.![]()
i thought the same thing when you resigned Jacque Vaughn, jesus when this guy comes in he gets a standing ovation from the phoenix fans.
Same thing happened in SA, people just love the guy. I wish him all the best
marks is standup guy, works his ass off and is always thier to work with amare and boris. this guy is a horse and great teammate.
Vaughn: crucial minutes in the 2007 Finals and throughout the playoffs.
Marks: crucial minutes in regular-season garbage time.
Both have one ring, yet Sean never played one minute in the playoffs during his career.
Marks is a cool dude and I wish him nothing but the best ... but he does his best work in the locker room and the bench keeping team spirits up. Kind of a team mascot, especially at this stage of his career.
The Suns already have enough problems with people coming off the bench.

POST OF THE YEAR
I remember in the final couple of years of Shawn Bradley, Mavs fans did the same thing, but it wasn't really out of adoration for the guy.
