Dump their asses for cheaper contract. Pay no attention as to whether it fills a need on the roster. That's the Spurs way.
Given all the melodramatic responses to the Scola/Butler trade, what do people think will happen next regarding the Spurs' roster? We just got about $7 million from the Houston deal, we are still sitting on Beno and Brent Barry, and we all KNOW that neither R.C. nor Pop is committed to them being on the team next year, so what do we think may actually happen? There is still a lot of off-season time left, and I for one don't believe that the Spurs are done. So who is out there that we might trade for? Anybody have any guesses?

The Spurs might be interested in:
Udoka
Outlaw
Barnes
Posey
I doubt they get one of them... (Udoka most likely I guess)
You know, actually, Posey or Outlaw would fit with the Spurs' mentality of going for aging guys who have been around a lot and can be (theoretically) plugged in without much work. Both of them are pretty good players, I think, and could add minutes off the bench without much time spent. I hadn't thought about guys like that because I thought we were trying to develop a team of eventual replacements for our stars as they age. But his may make sense, especially if we would get them for relatively little money and get rid of their contracts in time for next year or the following, when Horry et.al. will definitely be gone. But someone promise me...we really ARE going to get rid of Beno before the end of the off season, aren't we....please????
Beno has told the Spurs he plans on coming in at the end of the summer in game shape and in deep concentration. They've chosen to believe him.
IMO there is no one who will take Beno's contract unless we give up a pick. Barry isn't really a canidate for salary dumping either because anyone who wants him most likely would want him as an expiring contract.
However, I think teams don't want to spend their MLE so if we get under the luxury tax by that much we'd be able to out bid people.
****BEEEEP***
Wrong answer. Lux tax and salary cap aren't the same thing.
Let me ask this question, would be willing to give up Bulter and Scola, just to rid yourself of Beno? I could care less if Beno comes back in game shape. Now, if he comes back with CONFIDENCE, then I might change my tune.
So maybe we will give up the pick we just got from Houston? I'd be willing to contribute at least $1.49 to help get somebody to take Beno. Wasn't last year the final one of his contract? Don't we lose the chance to get ANYTHING for him if we don't trade him before the end of the year? Does he have pictures of Pop with a goat, or what????
What do you mean?Wrong answer. Lux tax and salary cap aren't the same thing.
I'm saying the spurs won't spend but up to the Lux. Tax threshold. If we get under that threshhold by MLE we might spend it, which is important. We'd have to get under the Cap to spend more than the MLE...
I'm I misunderstanding something?
How is it that the Spurs are dumping players and Udrih is still here?
Like I said, they've changed their mind and really like Udrih now.
People freaking out (with some good reason) about giving up Bulter and Scola for a second round pick. So if we sent that out for someone taking Beno we basically lose 3 guys for their salary space. Unless you knew you could sign someone awesome that is a horrendous offseason.
Yeah, this summer wouldn't be complete without them banking on Udrih in a contract year.
I think the fact that the trading partner was Houston is a big part of the dissatisfaction.
Parker played averaged 38 minutes in the playoffs leaving 10 minutes for our second AND third option at point guard. I'm not sure that keeping or getting rid of Beno really makes that big of a difference. You can't be three deep at every position with all-stars.
Agreed.Parker played averaged 38 minutes in the playoffs leaving 10 minutes for our second AND third option at point guard.
That's what I love about Parker and Duncan too. These guys if needed can play just about 48 minutes a game. So if you get to game 7 it's a huge advantage.
What can the Spurs get for Brent or Beno if all they got for Scola AND Butler was a second round pick?
I say dump em both so 1000 threads can be made about how much they meant to the team and how we will surely fall without them, and how they are going to take whomever they are traded to to the promised land.
Oh, and how Holt pocketed the savings too.
No .How is it that the Spurs are dumping players and Udrih is still here?
I like Beno. Bring him back - his man hugs, sensitive brown eyes, and all those jokes!! Always gets me with a good belly laugh. And he's a great team player. I can't wait to see him in the Silver and Black next year.
Beno 4Eva!!!!!!!
If we're bringing in Udoka I think we're holding off on the wing, large SF situation for at least another year and rolling with what we have. White will be gone, Bonner, Oberto, and Vaughn are the significant signings.
I'd like to see a FA plug-in to mix it up but that's only if Barry and/or Beno leaves.
My guess is that if we're going to, the time to trade Barry is February, when people are willing to take expiring contracts to clear cap for next summer. Whether anyone will give us something we would want for him remains to be seen.
That's asinine. Since when is Houston our biggest concern? The fact is, Houston will beat the Spurs in a playoff series when McGrady and/or Yao Ming live up to their potential. Scola and Butler are not going to be "the difference makers" for that team. It's whether Adelman can get T-Mac to stop crying like a p**** in the playoffs and start playing like a champion.
You'd think we just gave them Manu, TP and Duncan for a bunch of magic beans.
Boring Saturday, so I've looked at teams that could be interested in a PG and that can absorb his salary.
I've founded 6 teams :
New Jersey
Seattle
Cleveland
Golden State
Charlotte
Indiana
