Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest have been suspended seven games without pay by the NBA for recent scrapes with the law, the league announced Saturday.
Jackson, of the Golden State Warriors, was suspended for pleading guilty to criminal recklessness in Indiana, while Artest was suspended for pleading no contest to spousal abuse.
Both suspensions will begin with the first game of the 2007-08 NBA regular season.
Jackson pleaded guilty last month to a felony count of criminal recklessness for firing a gun outside a strip club last fall and was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and perform 100 hours of community service.
Artest was arrested and charged in March with assaulting his wife. He pleaded no contest to the charge in May and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and a 10-day work project.
Both players were previously suspended by the league for their involvement involved in the Indiana Pacers' brawl with Detroit Pistons fans at the Palace of Auburn Hills in 2004.

They were suspended for that occurred in their personal life unrelated to basketball?![]()
You're being paid millions of dollars to play in the NBA, damned straight they have the ability to suspend you for actions which reflect negatively on the league.![]()
Once again, glad I'm a Spurs fan.
Dave Chappelle, that ain't yo wife.
Is that a new general rule or an Artest rule though? I've seen several players charged with domestic abuse (J-Kidd, Eddie Griffin, Patrick Roy), not sure how many of them were suspended by the league. If it's to send a message because of Artest's and Jax's history, that's another thing...
so i assume jerry buss will be penalized for drinking and driving, right? how about musselman? was he suspended too?
Ouch.. I wonder what will happen if these guys were teammates? LOL that would be interesting to see
7/82 salary is not significant to these overpaid thugs.
Both players in this case either were found guilty of a crime or plead no contest, and had prior histories. Were JKidd/Griffin actually found guilty in a court?
With re another post suspending Buss ... (a) misdemeanor, not felony and (b) not actually found guilty yet, correct? I never did see the formal BAC results, either. Mussleman ... well he's not coaching anymore now, is he?
Yes, both pleaded guilty.
And to address the point about Buss' charge being a misdemeanor, Artest's charge was also a misdemeanor. So the magnitude of his offense can't be the reason.
You are aware that your work runs a background check on you, right?
They did nothing wrong and the suspensions should be overturned. Artest needs a divorce and Jax should stay out of the midwest.
someone needs to pop a cap in artest head, of course that would just piss him off.
They will be on the same all star team next year.
Translation: Kiss my ass.
