There is a used golf shop on Austin HWY next to the planet K they have all kinds of crap. I would check the Sunday paper for sweet deals.
As soon as you find some, let me know so I can kick your ass all over the golf course![]()

I wanna pick it up big time, i just dont wanna spend a grand on a set damn it
Go to some local Muni courses and check the clubhouse for posted adds.
1K is not that much for a good set of clubs. If you're just starting out, do it right.
so it isnt that bad to pay that much then?? and yeah im just starting off and i wanna start off right i wanna pick it up and play it well
I've played for years. My first set was Powerbilt Citation woods and Scotchblade Irons. You couldn't find those anywhere, except in a museum.
TaylorMade "rac" is my club of choice. Look for a set that's about 3-4 years old. Shouldn't cost that much, and you won't regret it.
I have Callaway Big Bertha driver and #3 metal. That's really all you'll need. Learn to hit your 2 and 3 iron (rac's are solid).
Don't go crazy on a putter right away. Spend alot of time on the practice green. You'll need a wedge. Try a 56 degree to start. Not expensive.
sounds good anymore other tips for this begginner?
Don't hit the ball like you're chopping wood. Keep your back-swing on an even plane. Power comes from the hips and lower body. Practice, practice, practice is more important in the beginning, a lot cheaper, too.
Remember what you're getting into. Once you hit that perfect shot, it's like heroin.
first off, get a good used set, you dont need a brand new set.
second, GET LESSONS!!! Go over to san pedro and Joe Caruso's practice range, and use him, hes who i used in high school, and under him i went from 10 to a 3 handicap. Joe Caruso is a of a good instructor and I HIGHLY reccommend him.
third, to get a good used set, go to second chance golf on fredericksburg road i believe.
I highly reccomend the NIKE Slingshot irons, great set for mid to high handicappers.
batman, youll hear people wanting you to get fitted for clubs blah blah blah, well it does help and does need to be done, but not till you get a solid, consistent swing.
If you cant get into Joe caruso's place, La cantera Golf Academy is THE BESt, thats where I met Joe back in 98, and I still highly reccommend that place.
Good luck bat, keep a positive at ude, I gaurantee though, after you hit that first pure shot, you'll be hooked.
The great thing about golf, is its the game thats never mastered, its the game where you strive for perfection yet not one person ever meets it.

I saw a nice set on eBay for 75.00 cash
140.00 for shipping![]()
thanks guys i really really wanna hit the golf course hard guess i gotta start out at the driving range first whats the going rate for lessons anyways?
You'll have to check the local pros. Haven't had a lesson in 30 years. A good way to start, though. Good luck. You're about to begin an untreatable, expensive addiction.
I've got a set of Hogan Apex Blades 3-PW, Hogan Apex Pro 3-PW, Tommy Armour Evo Cavity v-25 3-PW, Mizuno MP33 3-PW, and Mizuno Tzoid Pro's 3-PW all laying around. I've wanted to sell them but I'm a ing pack rat. I've got about a dozen Scotty Cameron putters sitting in my room as well, don't think I could ever sell those.
Ebay will be your best bet for finding decent irons for a decent price. I've gotten a lot of clubs off of ebay and never had a problem.
Your looking at 25 dollars an Hour. Tpark is right, if you go to the golf course they have all the answers. Clubs. lessons etc...
I will show you what I know for 25.00 Dollars a day. You won't be sorry I was semi pro back in the 80s.
The key is relaxation. I suggest you smoke a joint and take a Volume on your first lesson. I need you lose out there. I am able to correct anyone's slice or Hook in 60 seconds.
As long as you relax and let the club do all the work and don't get upset when things don't go right. If you are one of those asshats that likes to throw his putter in the dirt every time he misses a Putt? then you better find someone else. I don't tolerate people with short fuses.
I hope you have better luck finding that bag I asked you for than you are having finding your clubs. I want to soup up your PC mighty mouse style.
don't let me down tonight.![]()
i never lose my temper in sports unless its football and then i focus in on the kill!!!
im pretty relaxed all the time and thats why i wanna take up golf just relax and tap it in, tap it in tap tap tap taperoo
Some golf courses have escort girls serving drinks, how relaxed can you stay?
Are you some kinda Golf club Vampire? what the ?
lol
I had some Hogan Apex Blades back in high school when they first came out, shot my lowest round ever with those puppys too, 75.
I stopped using my golf clubs after I realized one certain stiff appendage was as good as any of them.
Playing with 2 balls will cost you a stroke.
Don't do it sir......once you start, you'll be hooked.
I paid 500 for my first set (bought from a friend). After I got some experience under my belt I went to play some rounds with friends and saw what they had. I've bought three sets since then and the cheapest I put together was 1500 dollars. However, you don't need great expensive clubs to be a good golfer (I did, cause I'm shallow).
Good Luck! Practice, practice!
Some of the advice here is good. Just remember to get someone to show you the proper setup, alignment, and swing plane so you can practice the right swing. Don't be like some of these hacks that go pound a bucket of balls and they practice and ingrain a bad swing.
Sorry Tpark but picturing you trying to get out of the sand trap has me cracking up![]()
