Gervin was the man!
I'm still drunk off the championship to think of two people of the same caliber as Beno to put in the last category, but I had to fill a 15 man roster.

This thread had no legitimacy without seriously considering Alfrederick Hughes and Dwayne Schnitzius...
TOM COPA was the ultimate HUMAN VICTORY CIGAR. If anyone remembers, fans would be chanting COPA during blowouts hoping to see just a mere glimpse of his greatness. I wonder why Beno never gets a chant?
He may be (and he's not) but if you can seriously compare the greatness of Johnny Moore and say he's better than Tony Parker I'd reply:
You stupid.
Sean at his Peak vs. bowen is tough. I think what Sean brings on offense makes up for the difference between him and Bowen on D, which was significant but not outrageous. Sean was a very good defender. Bowen is all-time.
Now, Gervin vs. Manu has a similar problem. Gervin is easily the most talented scoring wing in Spurs history. But he played when the team couldn't defend its own shadow. Its hard to evaluate how well he would have fit into the Spurs system because of this. On the face of it, manu's offensive numbers vs Gervin's are a crush for Gervin, but Manu's defense kills' Gervins.
Manu, on the other hand, is a good defender with a history of winning (and occasionally losing) playoff series for his team. He has become a very good 3pt shooter, manages his ego better than 99% of the NBA by being the 6th man and took a salary hit for the team. Some say if he was the main option, he would score like the top wings in the league. To his detriment has been his inability to play more than 30 minutes a game for a season and perhaps more tellingly his inability to be effective with the second unit when he is the only "creating" scorer on the floor; teams just double him and then run back on the spot-up shooters. Gervin would have never been neutralized so easily, and he was the main guy on his team when he played so we know that for a fact; of course, they didn't play defense until the 90's (or so they say)...
In the end, an interesting question but impossible to know because they played in vastly different systems. It would be Interesting to see what Manu would do as the primary option in a system correctly built to use him correctly. It would also be interesting to see how Gervin did in the demanding Defensive system so key to the Spurs current success. My guess: Gervin was simply unstoppable offensively, and his individual defensive lacking would be helped out by team defense. With Parker, Sean, David (both at peak) and Tim, either Gervin or Manu would make juggernaut that only all-history combinations of players would match.
ha ha, so much for dream world imaginations.
Robinson
Duncan
Kennon

I'm assuming we're talking about players at the peak of their tenure with the Spurs...players like Nique and Finley would be on the team if it was their normal peak we're talking about and not their best years with us. Operating under this assumption..
