Aside from not offering a solution to the alledged Islam-wide problem, the author of this piece is talking in circles. We shouldn't blame Muslims for the brutality of terrorists, but we should smear their beliefs and their way of life? The peaceful Muslim should not be criticised for the actions of a terrorist, and I also disagree that Christians should take any responsibility for something that happened a thousand years ago.Should all Muslims be blamed for such brutality? Clearly not. But Islam should take responsibility for what is all too frequent in Islamic history and in the culture that grows out of the Koran. Nor should Christians dodge past outrages by Christians and those who called themselves Christians.
So we've established that some people think the root of the problem is Islam itself. So what now? Convert the savages to Christianity or Atheism? Or do we just air our criticisms of their lifestyle ad nauseum until they couldn't give a about White Christian America? Terrorists gain followers by preaching that America has imperialistic intentions which could lead to the extermination of Islam, and the more American mouthpieces who bemoan certain texts in the Koran (which are no more widely followed in Mainstream Islam than certain commands God gave to Abraham in the Old Testament are followed in Mainstream Christianity), the more evidence the terrorists have to support their claims.
Here's a thought for Conservative media pundits... Let's do our best not to alienate the many Muslims around the world, whose support we will desperately need in the decades to come. I know that's hard, because ing is so easy and increases readership if written with a sharp wit, but how about giving it a try.
