i'd be su ious if i were a mavs fan, but i think it also points to the kind of games this guy was likely to screw with. really, who watched that game? and who is noticing a lane violation when the other team is running down the clock?
In classic Mav fan fashion, I have discovered a way to prove that Tim Donaghy DID INDEED screw over the Mavericks.

Did Donaghy Help Warriors In Game Versus Bulls?
July 23, 2007 - 11:08 pm
New York Times -
As F.B.I. officials, the news media and fans pore over video footage of games refereed by Tim Donaghy, looking for curious foul calls and other such behavior, several seconds of a game between the Chicago Bulls and the Golden State Warriors in February could attract attention.
The Bulls-Warriors game of Feb. 9, played at Golden State and broadcast on ESPN, was tied, 112-112, with 23 seconds remaining. While a Bulls guard dribbled between midcourt and the 3-point shot line — clearly working the clock down for an attempt at a final shot — Warriors center Andris Biedrens stood in the lane without guarding anyone for about seven seconds, which is grounds for a defensive three-seconds violation.
Donaghy, stationed behind Biedrens on the baseline, clearly stepped forward and tapped Biedrens on the waist with 16 seconds left. Biedrens, by then at the edge of the lane, then immediately moved clear of the paint, and play continued.
The penalty for defensive three seconds is the assessment of a technical foul and retention of the ball. Golden State could have faced a 3- or 4-point deficit before getting the ball back.
Instead, the Bulls had a shot blocked with six seconds left, and Golden State missed a half-court heave to leave the score tied as regulation time ran out. The Warriors won in overtime, 123-121. According to several gambling Web sites, the odds opened with the Warriors favored by a point and a half.
--------------------------
With this loss, the Warriors would not have made the playoffs ahead of the Clippers (assuming the Clippers would have played a little harder and not mailed in their final game, of course). And the Mavericks are World Champs, baby! Woohoo!

yeah it's true....and honestly I bet that sort of thing happens all the time when the refs know that nobody is going to be doing anything of significance for another 15 seconds....but as a Mav fan I'm obligated to about this.![]()
Very nice.
It's just a crime that y'all were robbed like this. I think you have a moral obligation to start 30 threads about it.![]()
I hope I never have to see this in any truthful context for the rest of my life.
i shudder to think what this board would be like had it been a mavs-suns game.
Dirk screwed the Mavs because he is a choke artist PERIOD!!!!!
That's called "game management". No official wants to have a game decided by an illegal defense technical foul call. Even Donaghy did some things right. He had to have some talent or he wouldn't have made it that far. He certainly wouldn't have bet on every single game he worked. In this case, it's just good game management to keep from deciding a game on such a cheap call at the end of a game. I've seen the same thing plenty of times when a team is setting up for a last shot to win and the offense may have a player camping in the lane. No official will call a three second violation at that time. He will just tell the player to clear the lane. If he stays and catches the ball, then he will call it.
good one.
Isn't the rule as long as the player your guarding is within arms length of you, that the three-second rule isn't enforced? Chances are he was guarding Ben Wallace, who has no business being outside of the lane on offense. It certainly does fit the type of game that are under investigation, and it is certainly a little off, but I'd try and find a rule clarification and video of where his man was before writing an article.
There are probably going to be tons of games like this called into question over the slightest appearance of impropriety.
EDIT: I just googled "NBA rules defensive three second" and this was what NBA.com gave me...
Section VIII-Defensive Three-Second Rule
a. The count starts when the offensive team is in control of the ball in the front-court.
b. Any defensive player, who is positioned in the 16-foot lane or the area extending 4 feet past the lane endline, must be actively guarding an opponent within three seconds. Actively guarding means being within arms length of an offensive player and in a guarding position.
c. Any defensive player may play any offensive player. The defenders may double-team any player.
d. The defensive three-second count is suspended when: (1) there is a field goal attempt, (2) there is a loss of team control, (3) the defender is actively guarding an opponent or (4) the defender completely clears the 16-foot lane.
e. If the defender is guarding the player with the ball, he may be located in the 16-foot lane. This defender is not required to be in an actively guarding/arms dis-tance position. If another defender actively guards the player with the ball, the original defender must actively guard an opponent or exit the 16-foot lane. Once the offensive player passes the ball, the defender must actively guard an opponent or exit the 16-foot lane.
PENALTY: A technical foul shall be assessed. The offensive team retains pos-session at the free throw line extended. The shot clock shall remain the same as when play was interrupted or reset to 14 seconds, whichever is greater.
Again, not saying this article takes a wrong stance, only it doesn't clearly state whether or not Biedrins was within an arms length of whomever he was defending, and chances are it was Wallace, who was probably standing just outside the key to one side or another.
he's not even touching the ball on that play, why would that be a bad call ?. HE HAS TO HAVE POSSESSION OF THE BALL TO BE CALLED OUT OF BOUNDS, SMART ASS!!
Typical rockets fan. Making excuses that your sorry ass team can't get out of the first round.
That the Rockets got screwed? What about the no call on the gigantic ing thumb holding Finley down? He's about to tip over from his foot being trapped on the floor.
When you step out of bounds, you can't be the first player to touch a loose ball.
so let me get this straight. the 67 win mavs were screwed because they had to play 42 win team that should have won 40 games instead getting to play a 40 win team?
I personally won't believe any videotape of Donaghy having sex with Mark Cuban ... it has to be computer effects.Proof That Donaghy SCREWED The Mavericks!
Good lord, that is too rich...
I thought it was simply a matter of him having to establish himself back inbounds before touching the ball. Either way, he was clearly out of bounds and making a play on the ball. Leave it up to Mav Fan to argue in that still shot of one frame in the sequence, his hand was not on the ball so therefore he did not touch it.
While the thread was started in jest, let me ask you what is worse: That some portion of Mav Fan subscribes to this logic, or the fact that you can actually understand it?
incase you werent a fan then... jon barry got the rebound and was holding the ball. when finley ran out of bounds hitting the ball out of barry's hand. all while the ref is starring right at him, completely missing it.
I think there is more proof that he screwed us in the Game 3 of the 2007 Playoffs in Golden State.
3 technicals that night? whoa....look how much they won by too...this was after the series was tied 1-1
Damn Mavsfan...you're reaching ers, you're reaching.
