ESPN's College Football Live is talking about it now and it was all over the sports talk radio up here today

Teams like Pittsburgh, Missouri, Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, West Virginia and even Rutgers were mentioned.

Notre Dame naturally came up but it was pretty well dismissed since ND has the NBC contract.

    Thoughts?

the ONLY reasons to expand would be for a) the conference championship game (which they don't seem to care about much) or b) the school brings in mega revenues on its own.

for b), only ND fits the bill. otherwise, any addition would just be splitting the pie in more directions.

    sorry mizzou...

ND isn't going simply because all it's other athletics are in the Big East and they aren't leaving that conference.

Orangebloods seems to believe that if Mizzou leaves, it would be a huge blow to the Big 12. Also, the rumors of Colorado thinking about going to the Pac 10 and the breakup of the Big 12 is inevitable. I hope that doesn't happen though.

I've heard the talk of adding Iowa St. and then having the Big 12 try and snap up Colorado St. from the WAC. Whoever joins, if it does happen, will not be as big of a splash as getting Penn St. back in the early '90's.

ND isn't going because of the NBC TV contract - it's that simple. The Big 10 had a shot at them until the Big East caved and accepted all sports except for football, what bunch of wusses.

Mizzou leaving would be a huge blow to the Big 12 (KC & STL tv markets). But I'm not sure the Big 10 wants them as much as Tiger fans would have you believe.

The Big 12 can survive, but not in its present format. Right now, this conference caters to the big boys in the league more than any other BCS conference. There is going to have to be a greater degree of sharing for this conference to survive.

Most likely, the smaller schools will band together and demand revenue sharing similar to what the Big 10 does, in which case Texas will secede, leading to a domino of moves. And the funniest thing will be that big revenue schools who will be leaving because they don't want to share revenue will be going to another conference (i.e. Pac 10, SEC) where - guess what - they will have to share revenue...

Notre Dame will just make the Big 10 even weaker. It's already the Big 2 and the little 9, after that it will be the big 2 and little 12

I think it'll be Pitt. It makes the most sense for football and steals a perrenial top-20 team from the Big East in basketball. Broadens the scope of the the Big-12 part duex as well. West Virginia isn't a bad choice, either, with them being a pretty good football school year after year, and with Huggins as the basketball coach, it'd be yet another potential top-20 program in basketball being taken away from the Big East. Louisville made sense, but now without Petrino as the FB coach, and with them just moving to the Big East a few seasons back, it doesn't make as much sense.

Going after Rutgers makes the most sense as far as exposure goes. Having the conference's games being broadcast in the media market of the world would help recruiting...
