I pretty much agree with these top 7 and the order is probably pretty good too. Dallas will probably win more regular season games than the Spurs but that does not matter as we have seen.
I think 1 of the top 4 listed in the West will win the le. Which one? we will see.
The East is more challenging now with Boston's off season moves. They could go all the way to the top of the Eastern Heap? But realistically any of those 7 could represent the East in the Finals I like the Bulls but would not mind at all if the Celtics or Magic made the Finals.
I only wish i would have placed a $20 on the Celtics at 80-1 last month!
I don't see the Spurs winning the division over the mavs... with the abundance of veterans and the micro management of minutes that will take place... on top of the fact the Spurs historically don't play the regular season with much sense of importance. spurs should be good for about 57 or so wins.
they still should take it over the rockets though... who are almost a lock to have injury problems.
Going into the season:
West
1. Spurs, obviously they are the champs
2. Houston, the arrival of Francis
3. Phoenix, the Donaghy scandal makes Suns fans believe that they would of beat San Antonio. This makes Phoenix actually have some confidence going into the season (If they face SA again they won't win unless injuries occur, that is only my opinion though)
4. Denver, AI and Carmello now have experience with each other
5. Utah, this team is only improving after making the conference Finals
6. Dallas, that crushing loss in the playoffs will take it's toll. Despite being a top team in the West Dallas is pretty low going into the season.
7. Blazers, a young up and coming roster that should be tough.
East
1. Cavs, conference champs
2. Boston, Blockbuster trade
3. Detroit, injected with youth
4. Chicago, 1 more year of experience only helps
5. Miami, Healthy Wade but I am sure that these bad off season moves will bite them in the butt later
6. New York, even more talent now. Can they put it together?
7. Toronto, good season last year but can they improve?
I forgot Toronto on my list. At this point, I would probably go with them instead of the Wizards.
Western Conference Rankings:
1. San Antonio Spurs - Until a team can beat them in a best of seven series in this years playoffs then they are the team to beat this year.
2. Phoenix Suns - Returned their core group and added Grant Hill. They are going to miss the defensive presence of Kurt Thomas especially when they face Duncan and the Spurs. They should win more than a hand full of games this season but they still cant beat the Spurs.
3. Houston Rockets - If this team stays healthy, they will be a team to reckon with. A lineup including Francis, McGrady, Scola, and Yao will be hard for many teams to contend with. They will have to go through San Antonio or Phoenix in the second round of the playoffs and I believe that is where their road will end.
4. Denver Nuggets - Now A.I and Carmelo have a year under their belts and I believe Kenyon Martin may be coming back.... This could be a team with all bark and no bite..... Talented yes but championship contenders no.... Look for another first round exit from this team.
5. Dallas Mavericks - Wow.... 67 wins last season only to show a first round exit in last years playoffs. I believe Dirk needs to stop partying with David Hasselhoff and focus on basketball, he was no where to be found in the playoff series against the Warriors. Look for the Mavericks to be compe ive for the divsion le with San Antonio and Houston but look for a second round exit as they have to face either San Antonio or Phoenix in the second round of the playoffs.
6. Utah Jazz - I forgot about this team..... D. Williams will come back with a ton of confidence as is C. Boozer as well. Unfortunately, Denver should have some chemistry and K. Martin coming back. Utah on paper does not have the team to compete with the top five teams in the west. They were fortunate last season to face the Warriors in the second round of the playoffs.
7. Los Angeles Lakers - The drama is going to continue in la la land. Kobe is going to cry on how he does not have any help to make his team a contender but yet front office can waste money on Luke Walton 5 yr / 30 mil..... If they do trade Kobe Bryant more than likely this team does not make the playoffs and possibly become a lottery team.....and if so maybe just maybe David Stern will give them the number one pick and allow them to draft OJ Mayo.......
8. Portland Trailblazers - No longer the jailblazers, Kevin Pritchard has changed the image of this team tremendously and look for this up and coming team to make an appearance in the playoffs. Oden will be more impressive than what people expect.
Bubble Teams:
Los Angeles Clippers
Golden State Warrors
Memphis Grizzles

Why is everyone sleeping on the Hornets? New Orleans > Golden State, Portland (at least next season), LA (Lakers AND Clippers), Memphis and all the lower quality teams. All of their starters and most of their key reserves spent a significant amount of time on the injured list last season. But they have a high quality PG and Center (the hardest positions to fill), quality shooters and slashers and they're a defensive minded team.
Point Guard
Chris Paul - future perenial All-Star, rookie of the year 06-07, player that makes others better
Bobby Jackson - Former 6th man of the year. A quality defender and strong outside shooter. High quality backup.
Wings
Morris Peterson - Shooter and scorer. Will add a scoring punch to a team that lacked it much last year.
Peja Stojakovic - One of the better shooters in the game that will also be playing with one of the better assist-men in the game. Despite playing only 15 games last season, Peja looked good in his time on the floor. He should be healthy now and ready to play.
Rasual Butler - Nice shooter and backup player. Long and quality defender, however, inconsistent at times.
Posts -
David West - Runner up for most improved player 06-07, consistently strong scorer, automatic from midrange and downright deadly in the pick n' pop which he runs to perfection with Chris Paul, WAY underrated player that has consistently played at his high level for two years straight
Tyson Chandler - coming off a breakthrough career year where he lost the league rebounding le by .1 RPG (no kidding). Solid defender and vastly improved scorer.
Hilton Armstrong - Selected to draftexpress' Summer League 3rd team. A second year post player with a knack for rebounding and shotblocking. Has been known to explode offensively too, but has not been consistent in that effort. Still developing, but already a quality backup in the league.
Cedric Simmons - Another second year post player. Defensive and rebounding specialist. While still a project, still very functional and effective on the floor already.
This team can run, score, defend and rebound (plus, they're very deep). A flurry of injuries caused them to miss the playoffs last season. But I greatly expect them to not only make the playoffs, but have a serious shot of advancing to the second round. Don't sleep on the Hornets.
West:
1) Phoenix

I have to agree with you but I still have a big question mark about Peja... If he's healthy and back at his shooting lvl the hornets will be a much better team than expected...
I personally think that Cedric Simmons will win Most Improved Player this year.

West - regular season records
1 Mavs
2 Suns
3 Spurs
4 Rockets
5 Jazz
6 Nuggets
7 Golden State
(Leaving last spot up for grabs and in an upset the Hornets take it over a bunch)
Spurs will win conference
East
Regular season
1 Bulls
2 Pistons
3 Raptors
4 Cavs
5 Celtics (3-5 could flip flop but having coach Rivers is worth 5 losses)
6 Heat
7 Wizards
8 In a upset the 76ers who played almost 500 ball s/p Iverson will sneak in over the Nets, Knicks etc.
Bulls win conference
Spurs win a great 7 gamer vs. the Bulls but again BSPN and others complain about the ratings.
