    Webber & Posey?

    By Bill Ingram

Various reports cited by a Los Angeles radio station have the Dallas Mavericks close to signing Detroit Pistons free agent forward Chris Webber to a one-year deal using their mid-level exception. The Mavericks are willing to offer him the entire MLE, but would prefer to give him $3.5 million and use the rest to add one more piece to the roster.

The other piece the Mavericks are interested in is veteran swingman and defensive specialist James Posey, who has been around the NBA block but was most recently a member of the Miami Heat.

Webber would add another scoring threat in the front court and a that ever-elusive back-up to Dirk Nowitzki. Posey would bring rebounding and the ability to push the ball, penetrate, and score on the break. He would also add one more player with championship experience to a roster in need of playoff leadership.

More on this story as it develops!

I'm not sure either of those players will help make them mentally tougher or give them another option in clutch situations....two things the Mavs need most.

I'd rather see Posey on our bench that out on the court in another team's uniform guarding Dirk.

As for C-Webb, eh, for 15-20 minutes a night, he's absolutely an upgrade over Croshere or Van Horn. And I think Eddie Jones for 20 minutes a night is an absolute upgrade over Buckner.

But, still, mental toughness and poise are things that can't necessarily be fixed with a trade or a FA signing. Sometimes those things have to come from within.

I don't care about Webber, but Posey would help them...

Won't think about it just yet. Wait for a different source to confirm that. Hoopsworld should not be believed at all. The only credible news they have is news that has been confirmed by other sources.

Put Webber and Dirk on the court for the last 3 minutes. Spot the Mavs a 15 point advantage even. They will find a way to lose, guaranteed.

I'd take Webber. He can still ball.

You'd think he would redeem himself sooner or later.

??? The Heat are letting Posey go and keeping Walker? Personally, I'd do it the other way around.

Posey yes, C-Webb no. C-Webb has no mobility and would be a huge liability on defense. The only thing he brings is a guy who can pass and get easy looks for teammates

We wouldn't be counting on him to play 35-40 minutes a night. As a backup for Dirk, I like him better than KVH or Cro.

Posey is a guy who would probably benefit from a change in scenery. He'd be a decent back up to Howard. I don't really see how Webber will help. He's not a crunch time guy, and even when his legs were still good he'd didn't play much D. I don't think that Avery is as much of a stickler about D as Pop, but if he is going to show any sort of emphasis on defense Webber won't see a lot of time on the floor.

personally, i think both would be solid pickups. I'd probably rather have Brown than Webber, but i wouldnt mind Webber, because he is definitely a better offensive threat and scorer, which IMO was our biggest problem last year, that we had no one that could score points off the bench. Posey would be nice because hes still a good defender, knocks down big shots and open threes, and is physical as heck.

Why are their current teams letting them go if Webb and Posey are so good!? Who are those teams keeping instead of them?

All they basically do is cut & paste articles (attach links) from newspapers & other publications around the country. They're just giving us a bunch of rumors from other people in one place. I think it's a good place to read rumors with out having to jump around.

I would love to land both, but we would have to trade 2 or 3 players for this to work. We have to many players!!

Thats exactly what the Mavs need isnt it? I guy that can set up his teamates, especially from the post. Dont think they have had that in the Dirk era

People can call Webber a soft choker all they want, but he's not being counted on to play starter's minutes. The bottom line is, would you rather him over Keith Van Horn or Austin Croshere?
