OMAHA, Neb. -- Are you wearing your patriotism on your bumper?

Magnetic ribbons adorn many cars. Some say "support the troops" or other patriotic phrases, but a body shop owner warns that those magnets can cause rust.

"When rain falls (at the seam), it can leak behind the magnet," said Matt Sain, with Central Body Co.

Sain said his business advertises on the side of company vehicles with magnetic decals, and the business is happy to repair rusted paint jobs. But, Sain said, you can avoid a costly paint job by being careful with your magnetic decals.

"We found out after a couple months, moisture gathers behind the decal. It starts to cause rust," Sain said. "What I'd recommend is removing the magnet one time a week, thoroughly clean behind it and (clean) the back side of the magnet."

These colors never run, but apparently they do bleed!

Isn't that just common sense to clean the magnetic ribbons?

Who..?....who doesn't want to wear the ribbon!?

I doubt many would even think about the rust problem....nice to know how to make sure it doesn't happen.

Now, if I could just figure out how to stop the kids from egging my car and finding a new residence for the million grackles that live in our oak trees, I'd be all set.

Get your kid(s) a pellet gun from Santa and turn them loose on the birds.

Grackles don't come around my house that much anymore.

Pellet gun? A shotgun will stop most birds and eggings.

People tend to frown and point when one discharges a shotgun in one's backyard.

The pellet gun is a tad more discrete.

You'd be surprised at how much trouble a pellet rifle can get you in. In many cities it's considered a firearm just like a shotgun. Oh and that's $125 fine in Converse to discharge a firearm. FYI

That's why I was saying to be a little more discrete.

If the pellet gun is too loud, these work real well and are really quiet.

One problem, there are lots of bird feeders in the back yard. So not only are there tons of birds, they tend to get really full.

Just use a nail gun. Or a blow dart gun. Those work pretty well.
