AUSTIN, Texas September 10 - The Austin Toros today named Roy Rogers assistant coach following a search headed by head coach Quin Snyder.
"I am pleased and enthused by Roy's addition to our staff," said Coach Snyder. "His expertise coaching post players will be a tremendous asset to our big men. Most important are his professionalism and character. I see him as someone our guys can learn from in multiple ways."
Roy Rogers is not new to the NBA Development League, having held the position of assistant coach of the Tulsa 66ers the past two seasons (2005-06 and 2006-07) and most recently with the Dakota Wizards. He started his coaching career as an assistant coach of the D-League's Huntsville Flight in 2005.
Rogers played with the NBA for three seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, and Denver Nuggets. He also played four seasons internationally in Russia, Italy, Greece and Poland. Rogers was an All-Southeastern Conference player at the University of Alabama (1992-1996).
"I am extremely excited to come to Austin and work with experienced coaches like Quin Snyder, Mo McHone, and the Spurs staff and I'm looking forward to the start of the season," said Roy Rogers.
