While I agree with the prediction that the Spurs will win it all this year,I think they are nuts to think that Cleveland will be back. They were terrible and got through a very weak conference. No way will they get past Boston.

If Doc doesn't screw things up and they stay healthy, they should represent the East. Miami is too old, Detroit will win just enough games to stay in the race but that's it. The conference is terrible.

Out West, Dallas remains the most formidable opponent for us to go through. Phoenix will most likely lose Marion and if they don't , he will cause chemistry issues again.

Everybody always predicts the Spurs to win the year after they have won.

Then something happens and the media begins to hang on the Mavs/Suns nuts...Spurs go under the radar.

Everybody counts the Spurs out for the next season. Spurs end up winning.

    Rinse and Repeat.

I agree that the Cavs are probably not going to be in the Finals this year and I can't see Manu winning the 6th Man of the Year award no matter how long or how well he plays. Knowing how the Spurs don't win regular season awards they'll try to hype someone else for it.

    True.

It's all speculation, it's all fun and games.
People, even the so-called "experts" can spin it anyway they want.

Lindy's did have the Spurs last year, they weren't defending Champs then but of course it was an odd year!

The breakdown of the teams isn't available on-line (that I can find), but here's a couple of quotes I liked in the article.

Duncan: "This team is about roles. This team is about people filling their spots when they have to."

Pop: "We've tried to bring in guys who have a certain character. A character that's made up of people who have gotten over themselves, people who care about the team more than an individual. I think it shows in a lot of different ways."

Horry: "We don't do a lot of flashy things. The only flashy guy we've got is Manu. Everybody else is just basic, but sometimes basic stuff gets the job done."

Duncan: "Manu is our X factor. Manu is the guy that when it all breaks down, when it all goes bad, when our offense isn't clicking the right way, he's the guy that makes plays."

I also liked what the author, Mike McGraw, had to say about Duncan: (I make no bones about it, I am all about Duncan.)

"Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade get more publicity. Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash have won the past three MVP awards. But it's tough to argue that anyone besides Tim Duncan is the NBA's best player.
Duncan was dominant in the playoffs against Phoenix, the Spurs' toughest series, averaging 26.8 points, 13.7 rebounds and shooting 57.3 percent from the field. In the Finals, Duncan led the Spurs in assists at 3.8 a game."

"Award for a winner. Tim Duncan seems overdue for a Most Valuable Player award. He now has four championships rings, but hasn't won MVP since 2003."

If Manu comes off the bench all season long, he might be able to win the 6th Man of the Year award. The Spurs repeating is very likely if they stay healthy and get on a roll towards the end like they did last season.

That is the only thing they haven't done!

Hopefully that will change this year.

When I was a kid--which was before internet was around-I used to really look forward to the preview magazines for the various sports. Man when they came out, I would read the out of them. If I spent all my money, I would sit in the aisles reading them till they kicked me out of the store. Good times.

No way in Tim Duncan ever comes close to another MVP unless:

    a) the Spurs are wracked with injury and he has to have a monster year just to keep them afloat

    or

    b) the Spurs win 75 games. The only way this would have happened is if they had gotten a significant infusion of young talent.

Face it. The Spurs are in permanent "just get through the regular season" mode for the remainder of Duncan's career. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

    It's a good thing.
It lets Pop manage minutes so we're fresh in April.

I have no problem if Duncan never wins another regular season MVP.
    Been there, done that.

I want Duncan to get the repeat, it would look good on his nearly perfect resume. (No DPOY, no Gold Medal.)

I wouldn't mind if he picked up another Finals MVP while he's picking up another ring.

What I liked about this Lindy's was just the joy of reading a Spurs sweep of the season. Looks awful good on paper! (Like the Celtics do! )

I wonder if Manu will be coming off the bench again this year. Part of me wants him to start as a fan, but the team is VERY good w/ him coming off the bench.

Well, with Udoka and V-Span's firepower off the bench, they can move Manu back to the starting lineup.

I assume it will follow the trend.
Manu starts until they play like , then he comes off the bench to provide his magic!

They could have won 75 the year Duncan had PF if only he hadn't had PF...maybe...

Just imagine Duncan the way he played the Mavs for the whole season...75 doesn't sound crazy except for Pop would have folded the remaining games after HCA was clinched.

    FWIW

I bought the Sporting News annual NBA preview mag and it mentioned that Street & Smith and the Sporting News have merged. So there will no longer be a Street & Smith NBA preview magazine anymore.

Also from what I was able to look over it seems the quality has slipped from previous SNs. I always bought 3 or 4 mags a year (SN, S&S, Athlon, Lindys), so now there's one less to get.

    Thanks for the info.

I noticed that on line, I usually pick up the regional Southwest issue of them all so I get the Spurs cover.

Good to know that the quality may not be worth my money.

Bulls have no superstar that demands a double team. Outside of lacking a superstar, They have no inside game either. Noah is worthless so dont expect him to make any difference. If Celtics play together and stay healthy, they are winning the east.

Is this guy a Spurs fan ?

Duncan won't ever win another regular season MVP (and maybe not even another Finals MVP....) and Pop probably won't get coach of the year unless the Spurs win a lot of games (64+). That won't happen, because Pop takes it easy in the regular season.

I am not being a homer here, but I still think the Pistons have got a shot. Either Flip does a better job, or he is fired. If that is the route taken then I think it can be done. Screw Boston. They can win get the job done, but everyone is locking them in.

Spurs as always have a shot

I think Chicago wins the East. They play the best defense in the East and their core players (Hinrich, Gordon, Deng) are appropriately seasoned but still young.

But yeah, that Spurs sweep would be cool (MVP, COY, DPOY, 6th Man).
