Parker and Rasho are on the same team again

TP and Rasho are on the same team again....the Eurobasket '07 All tournament second team. Hadn't seen this posted yet, if it has been then I apologize. Here's the writeup on Tony's performance. Going from NBA Finals MVP to Eurobasket 2nd teamer really shows how much the supporting cast helps Tony play his game.

"T. Parker (France) - Sort of wore down as the tourney went on, and can't blame him since so much of the offensive burden falls on him. Has no one who can consistently spread the floor around him, making his patented drives thru the lane tough to come by. Was keeping the sagging defenses France usually faces honest early in the tourney. But his outside shooting tailed off as the tourney progressed, and looked very frustrated that the defenses were loading up on him. Still managed 20 ppg (2nd overall) on 47% overall, 32.7% from 3pt. Did have two costly missed free throws that could have tied games with seconds remaining (Slovenia & Russ)."

R. Nesterovic (Slovenia) - 2nd summer in a row where he played well for Slovenia. Was a major interior presence on both ends of the floor. Was the focal point of Slovenia's strong defensive play, and was a major deterrent on the backline like Gasol--Rasho led the Euros in blocks (1.9) Also, did a solid job on offense converting in the painted area, especially using his nice little hook shot. Always thought he got a bad rap in San Antonio, but always felt he did a solid job in the Spurs' defensive scheme. Rasho pitched in with 12 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.9 bpg, & 50% shooting.

Congrats to Tony too.

Smodis:
Matjaz Smodis (Slovenia) - Just beat out Songaila for this spot on the 2nd team. Very consistent performer from game to game. Did damage inside & out: drilled perimeter jumpers & also showed off a nice collection of polished post moves. Would have led the tourney in FG% (62.7%) but he did not qualify with only 7 fg attempts per. Shot 12/23 from 3pt. Averaged 13.4 ppg in only 23 mins per. Also an underrated passer. Could be at least a solid back-up 4 in the NBA, and is one of the better veteran prospects in Europe. Quickness is an issue, but has nice bulk to be able to hold position on the post combined with a refined skill set of perimeter shooting, post moves, & passing. Is 29, but other 6-9 Euro vets like Garbajosa & Oberto have shown they can come to the league in their late 20s and provide quality minutes


Calderon: J. Calderon (Spain) - His outside shooting was the most impressive aspect of his play. Calderon's main weakness has been his outside shooting but he has shown over the last year that he has soldified his status as a reliable shooter--3rd in the tourney in FG% with 55.5% & was 19/38 from 3pt. Also, did a nice job pushing the ball in transition & attacked the basket when necessary.

Yea I think that can be said for any player. One of the biggest reasons great players are great is the ability for the FO to put good supporting players around them. Tony is even more the exception because he has Duncan and Ginobli on his team, when you think about it they are the ultimate supporting class, low ego drive and only care about one thing, winning.

This is not an official team-- Calderon made first team Eurobasket- might have even been MVP if Spain had won. If there had been a second team Parker probably would not have made it anyway because both Calderon and Jasikevicius would have been at PG in front of him. Rasho, on the other hand, even got a mention during the broadcast on how it was a shame there was not room on the Eurobasket all-tourney team for him- Gasol of course got the spot at center.

Parker wouldn't have been in because French NT sucked and only land as the 8th team of the tournament, there's no way Calderon and Jasikevicius had played better BB than Parker in my opinion.

I agree that TP is overrated and he is what he is because of TD and Manu. Some people are thinking TP is better than Manu which I do not agree.

Having said that, can we say TP struggled in FIBA as much as TD did in Olympics?

I just regret that Yugoslavia didn't last one more year. It would be really ineresting to see The Dream Team against arguably best Yu generation ever (Divac, Petrovic, Kukoc, Radja, Danilovic, Zdovc, Paspalj.......) in Barcelona 1992.

I disagree that European basketball (the sport) is light years behind US basketball. The case could be made that European basketball is more succesfull at teaching basics and fundamentals to its players than the US system.

I will however gladly agree that the NBA is by far the best league in the world where the best basketball is played. While I like the idea of the Euroleague it just can not compare in intensity and difficulty to the NBA. Even more worrying is the fact that I really haven't seen much of a growth/improvement of the Euroleague from its original idea.

Dude, you are clueless when it comes to basketball!
You were off, all the time, during the Basketball EC2007. Your game predictions and post-game analysis were borderline stupid and your one track mind is starting to annoye.
Seriously. You mixed up sports. Track and fields...weight lifting... and basketball are different sports. Your perception of basketball is shallow as it gets.
Stick with weight lifting. Those guys are strong, athletic, and they also don't use their brains much.
