    Amaré To Undergo Knee Surgery
    October 1, 2007 - 8:04 pm
    RealGM Staff Report -
The Phoenix Suns today announced that center Amaré Stoudemire will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee tomorrow, Tuesday, October 2.

Team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Thomas Carter will perform the surgery to remove a loose body. Carter performed microfracture surgery on Stoudemire’s left knee in October 2005. The 24-year-old Stoudemire will miss 2-3 weeks and is expected to have a full recovery.

The two-time All-Star and 2007 All-NBA First Team selection averaged 20.4 points and a career-high 9.6 rebounds last season, playing a full 82-game season after missing all but three games of the 2005-06 campaign due to injury. [READ]

This is just unfortunate. To see a talent, even a dumb talent, go to waste is just sad.

Well, if Amare misses any time, this should make Shawn Marion happy because he can be the MAN.

A great talent, but no, not real smart or mature, but so far, the balla with a tough childhood has kept his ass outta legal trouble, which alone is enough to want to root for him.

Maybe he hurt his knee getting off a certain bench too quickly. I've heard that a lot of people are hurting their knees while "checking in" to a game.

One more sign of progressive osteoarthritis.

Yep, and since it says a "loose body" that means there is a piece of cartilage floating around in his knee, more than likely part of his meniscus. Since it says that he will be back in a matter of weeks, they are doing a menisectomy (taking out the floating part of the meniscus), not repairing the tear (longer rehab with meniscus rapair). Therefore leading to less cartilage in the knee, more degeneration, more arthritis, shorter career, good news for teams other than the suns.

Oh and by the way, microfracture surgery is a surgery to try and stimulate cartilage growth by creating tiny fractures in the knee. The only reason you would need to stimulate cartilage growth is if you have decreased cartilage, which means he could be on his way to microfracture surgery on this knee as well if he keeps tearing pieces off of this meniscus.

Ahh, I can hear it now......

But Amare missed pre-season!!! He never had time to bond with the team in a relaxed environment with meaningless games, and that's a serious hindrance to his overall development damnit! I mean seriously, how do you expect him to play his best in the playoffs when he wasn't able to develop in-game chemistry with the guys the Suns only brought in for training camp anyway? This year's championship deserves an asterisk because the Suns were completely and unfairly compromised running during October. Yep. For sure. No doubt about it.
With it being only the first day of training camp, Amare's surgery is just an excuse to use when the Suns go fishing. Unless he decides to microfracture it up later in the season, I doubt this will make a big difference anytime soon.
