Well at least Zambrano is rested up for game 4.
Yeah, his shoulder won't have any issues with the rotation of his golf swing...
so much for that great D'backs were out scored all season stat. don't argue with W/L
So much for all that great Cubs pitching you hear constantly about from ESPN and all them.
So much for Soriano
The faces of the fans was classic.
Its like they SERIOUSLY didn't expect the Cubs to choke.
A team choked by losing a series to another team that had a better record and home field advanage?
Most of the media did favor them. I remember the willful ignorance of Jay Mariotti stating that the Cubs would out-pitch and blast their way to a 3-1 win. I guess he didn't know that Arizona hit more homers during the regular season, and save for Livan, had a rotation with an ERA of around 4.00 and the back end of the bullpen with an ERA around 2.00.
EDIT: I wouldn't say Chicago chokes, either, as Arizona was th better team entering. But when the media overhypes, sometimes inep ude appears to be choking.
Of course the media favored the Cubs. Everyone wants to be that person who picked Chicago when they actually go all the way. In reality, Arizona was a clear favorite throughout despite what anyone said.
The SportsReporters this morning illustrated the myopia of that media. Hearing Mitch Albom carrying on about the east coast media having to learn about these West-of-the-Mississippi teams, even if intended to be sarcastic, struck me as indicative of the degree to which the media manufactures stories, rather than reporting them.
My point, however, was that regardless of what the media thinks, I have no idea how a team with a lesser record and playing without home field advantage could be said to have choked away a series. The word "choke" is quickly becoming the most over-used word in sports reporting.
I agree. I don't think Chicago choked. I think they got beat. It can't really be both ways. Save for game one, Chicago never had much of a say in this series.
When you put TEN RISP in Game 1 and fail to capitalize, and go on to load the bases several times in the series, to start innings off with runners on 1st and 2nd repeatedly, in consecutive innings, only to ground into DPs and strike out, you choked.
And don't tell me it was ALL Arizona pitching. If the pitching was so dominant, the Cubs wouldn't have had 47,000 RISP in a 3 game sweep.
We had our chances. We blew them. If we would have cashed in on HALF of them, we'd be heading for Game 4 right now. That's the definition of choking.
How one-sided of you. Did you even check the amount of runners left on base/in scoring position the Diamondbacks had? They left nine through five. Sure, they scored three, but they had a bases loaded, nobody out, with Drew, Byrnes and Jackson up, and all they got out of it was one run when Byrnes beat out a potential inning0ending double play.
Whine, fuss, bellyache and bemoan the Diamondbacks. It's your right as a fan, but still... The Diamondbacks pitching induced four double plays in key situations. They battled for some important strikeouts. They took control on offense, forcing things by getting on base ans stealing bags to set up even better opportunities.
Only thing the Cubs choked on was the Diamondbacksdust as Arizona outhustled, outplayed and outlasted the Cubs in every facet of the game.
Boston sweeps!!!![]()
I lost vBookie though...had them winning in 4.

There's alot to be said about having a specialist for the 7th, 8th, and 9th inning... when your starter only needs to get you thru 6, that's a serioud advantage in playoff baseball, and a huge benefit to everybody...
...well, except Brandon Webb, cause he's so damn nasty he goes the full 9 half the time anyway
