Isiah Thomas
But to answer your question seriously, I would go with JVG or Pat Riley.
Ideally, I would go with Jerry Sloan, but he will never coach another team than Utah.
Who do you think is best suited to take over his spot?

First, when will he retire?
In conjunction with TD's retiremnet![]()
your answer:
Jeff Van Gundy![]()
I would want a rookie coach to do so.
either avery johnson, eric musselman, or a young up and coming coach.
JVG or Avery.
TD, hopefully. Or Bowen.

please no!
Mike Bud.
I guarantee that it will be someone from within Pop's coaching/player tree, for the purposes of ins utional continuity.....namely Avery Johnson, Mike Brown, Mike Budenholzer, etc. Definitely not Jeff Van Gundy.
JVG's offense would make 4-down look like Phoenix. Just say no. Also, no Avery. He made some gawd-awful decisions in that GS series.
When Tim leaves, they'll probably have to totally switch styles, and put something fun and fast paced on the floor to keep fannies in the seats. That would rule out most of the coaches named here.
When Pop and Duncan retire I'd suggest one of these four

David Robinson. Hopefully we wouldn't go soft with him as the coach...![]()

WTF is up with the Jeff Van Gundy love?
, I think I'd rather have Stan than Jeff.
JVG is the most over-rated coach in the modern NBA....dude had one good season as a coach, and it was with a team built and taught to play by Pat Riley.

Being a great player doesn't mean that you will be a great coach. Chances that Duncan, Robinson, Horry or Bowen become good nba coach are rather slim.
Baring a miracle, Spurs will start a rebuilding plan when Duncan/Pop will retire. I think the best solution for a rebuilding team is a young promising coach who can grow with the team.
