Fran is there for the taking, Huskers.
that makes it roughly a ZERO chance that Cally will be brought back next year...after signing a huge extension just a couple of months ago as well.
Don't be so quick to say Callahan is gone. Frankly at this point in the game, anything is possible.
To Steve Pederson - Thanks for all you've done for this program. We're better off than we were before you. Almost all sports are successful, major facility upgrades were complete, football recruiting increased ten-fold, a great QB camp for high schoolers was ins uted, and fundraising increased.
To the next Nebraska AD - Whether your name is Tom Osborne, Larry the Cable Guy, or someone else, you will have my full support. Nebraska comes first.
Isn't he (Pederson) an alum? And he got canned mid-season?
That's harsh. The Huskers can't even 'reassign' him?
I can agree with much of that, except for the recruiting. While Tom Lemming and Rivals.com would certainly agree with you, the on-field product and the number of NFL draft picks probably won't be much, if any, of an upgrade over the previous regime (certainly not tenfold).
See, Fran will stay because he beat OSU. OSU beats ttek - DC gets fired. OSU beats Neb - AD gets fired.
That's a good point, Capt Mike. OSU has been responsible for a big change in the big 12 this year, lol.
Hope Nebraska has some deep pockets, $12 million buyout for Callahan if they can him this year.
nebraska was never quite the same after we crushed them in 1998 and broke their home winning streak
and then did it again in 2002
they do. it's a much wealthier school/athletic department than most folks from outside the region realize. also significantly helped by the fact that it is the only school anywhere near being a BCS school in the state.
Even more importantly, SP's buyout was paid for with "private funds designated for general use" - AKA Booster buyout. Any buyouts that may happen would almost surely also be paid for by boosters.
It's rumored that the reason Chancellor Perlman did this with the timing he did because he received promises from the boosters to pay off the rest of the debt that the Athletic Department has from the recent facility upgrades, on top of the actual buyout itself.
