I know the Celtics and Bulls have more but how many will it take to surpass them?
The "Greatest" team in the NBA?
How many more rings do the Spurs have to get before they are considered the "Greatest" team ever?
And can this Spurs team we have now be the team make that happen?
I know the Celtics and Bulls have more but how many will it take to surpass them?
The Spurs have 4. The Celtics have 16, the Lakers have 14, and the Bulls have 6.
I'm no math major, but that would seem to mean that the Spurs need 13, 11, and 3 to pass each of those franchises, respectively.
With the way the Dallas Mavericks are looking thus far? I don't think you have a chance to achieve your fantasy goal in this Decade, more less this season! I am sorry to ruin your dream but facts are what they are.
Didn't you say that last year?
from the index i thought the le of this thread was how many more rings do the spurs have than the mavs?
that would have been thread of the year
if the win two more for the 3 peat
It'll never happen, but good mouse topic nonetheless.
At the minimum by 2035 to catch up with LA and Boston.
Glad you got to this before timvp.
I am a math major, and you are correct, sir.![]()
all we need to do is reduce the size of the nba to 8 teams
To bring a little bit of sincerity to the thread, I think the Spurs have a legitimate shot at establishing themselves as the greatest team of the modern era. With 6-7 rings over a huge span of time, they would have to be considered on a level with the Bulls. IF it happens, though, that's a LOT of work to win 3 more les, but if it happened, it would be the second most dominant streak in NBA history and probably of modern sports in general. No team in any major sport has even made a run at 5 les in a short period of time besides the Spurs and the Bulls.
What a great time to be a Spurs fan.
When we win more rings than the Lakers, Celtics, and Bulls combined, and Duncan is widely considered the greatest player ever.
So, in other words - not going to happen.
2006: Mavs collapse in NBA Finals, losing 4 in a row.
2007: Mavs become 1st and only #1 seed team in NBA history to lose to #8 seed in a 7 game series (and convincingly, at that).
Spurs sweep the Cavs in route to their 4th NBA championship.
=
Spurs are done?
I'm guessing you made that prediction last year, along with something along the lines of "this is the year for the Mavs! They've learned from their mistakes, and they're ready to kick butt!" Am I correct?
Have you no faith?
Those old records mean nothing to the new generation! This is now! If the Spurs can win one more Ring? they will without a doubt be the "Greatest team in the NBA!"

Two things come to mind: "Who" and "cares". Seriously, what ing Spurs fan sits there at the parade and goes "Well the historians are REALLY going to respect this team now!"![]()
Two things come to my mind also!
"You and I" If you don't? you was really never a true Spurs fan from the Start!

I don't think the question was "to be considered the winningest Franchise ever". The question was "greatest team ever". And that window is smaller. So, for the question posed, you don't have to match the Celtics' total les. Or the Lakers total les. You have to say in this period of time (whatever it is) THIS team was maybe better than any team ever.
For example, hypothetically, if we win 3 more in a row (4 in a row total), plus our previous 3, that's 7 in like 12 yrs or something like that, including a 4peat (which has only been done once before)?
If the Spurs win 4 in a row (and do it in dominant fashion), with 7/12 and having only been elimintated by: TD being injured in 2000, the 3peat Lakers a couple of times and a Mavs team that won 67 games the next year...
Is that going to happen? No. But would that be enough to be considered maybe the best ever with Jordan's Bulls and Magic's Lakers at least (for modern era)? I think so.
The Spurs' highly secretive master plan (HSMP) is to win every le from now until Tim retires. So once HSMP comes to fruition, they will have made a very strong case for themselves as the greatest team ever IMO. However, they will never be considered the greatest team ever unless they become more like the suns and go after every ratings championship from now until Tim retires.
