Out - JR Smith, 2008 Second
    In - Udrih

    SA
Out - Udrih, Marcus Williams, 2008 Second from SA
In - JR Smith, 2008 Second from Denver

    Charlotte
In - Marcus Williams, 2008 Second from SA

Why for Denver - Move Smith, whom their coach wants gone. Pick-up a 3ed PG, who has also played some SG. Udrih has been unimpressive in his 2nd and 3ed years, but has still showed some promising skills. Carter is out with a broken hand, and sucks anyway...

Why for SA - Move Udrih, whom their coach wants gone, mildly upgrade their 2nd round pick in 08. Pick up Smith, who has talent, but will be on team #4 for a reason (Hornets, Bulls, Nuggets, and then Spurs).

Why for Charlotte? - Temporarily (Williams is on a non-guaranteed contract) rent capspace for a prospect (Williams) and a late 2nd round pick.

What do you think of this trade proposal? Smith is a jackass, but we have been interested before (he was almost traded for Brent at one stage). Is getting rid of Udrih worth moving Williams for a Jackass?

It's not a bad TRADE but how in the would JR get any PT in OUR swing position? No room and from what I understand he doesn't exactly catch on to offensive systems too quick...

    ...much less defensive systems!

I think too that Denver won't do it.

There are a couple of problems about this trade. First, Denver has still traded his second round pick. Second, the Charlotte part make no sense. If Williams contract isn't guaranteed at all Spurs can just waive him.

This trade isn't too really good for Spurs. Spurs will have to sign a new 3rd string PG and available PG left available aren't that good. All in all, Spurs will spend between $1.1M and $1.45M.
I don't think Spurs are ready to spend that much to "upgrade" their 6th SG/SF from Williams to Smith, their 3rd PG from Beno to a min player and a very late second round pick into a late second round pick.

Bruno, you and T Park think that Denver wouldn't be happy to see the back of JR Smith? Take a look at the quotes I assembled when discussing this trade on RealGM -

    http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtop...251&highlight=

    The fourth post down.

The Charlotte part is there for the CBA - They give up nothing for 2 assests, Williams and the 2nd round pick (one if they waive Williams). For the Spurs, moving Williams means they do not add any net salary, and satisfies the CBA saying salaries in must be less than salaries out + 25% + $100,000.

As far as the 3ed PG issue goes, I don't see Udrih getting squat for minutes unless his at ude and effort suddenly skyrocket. I expect the PG rotation to go 4 deep, Parker, Vaughn, Manu/Barry. The preseason so far has demonstrated that Manu/Barry can handle the 3ed PG responsibilities effectively. I think that the Spurs would keep an empty roster spot for opportunities...

My view of this is net for the Spurs is a useless whiner turned into a roster spot, a switch of prospects from Williams to Smith (niether of which I really rate), and a slightly upgraded 2nd round pick...

To with JR Smith. From what I saw of him in last season's playoff series vs the Spurs he is simply too stupid or selfish to play for the San Antonio. I still think Cleveland is our only hope to dump Beno onto somebody or maybe we get lucky and PJ up in Seattle is enamored with him( why I don't know) and maybe we can pawn him off for an Earl Watson or Delonte West (yes I know I'm dreaming...)

The Spurs don't want contracts in return for Beno. The purpose of trading Beno would be to get under the luxury tax threshold while also getting something of value (however minimal) in return for a player that they appear to have no interest in having back after he becomes a FA a tthe end of the season. Translation: they want some combination of a draft pick(s), cash, rights to a player(s) overseas and/or future considerations.

Beno for JR. Thats like trading Jimmy Carter for Adolf Hitler. While Carter was a pretty pathetic president, Hitler was a mass murderer.

Seriously, Beno is a drag and a waste of time, but he doesn't destroy team chemistry. JR Smith on the other hand destroys whatever he touches, and the Hornets, Bulls and Nuggets have all seen through his shenanigans.

    No thank you.

    More trade rumors...

    Detroit Talking J.R. Smith Trade
    October 19, 2007 - 11:06 am
    MLive.com -
The Denver Nuggets have discussed trading J.R. Smith to Detroit for Flip Murray. However, there are a couple of issues that make it unlikely the deal will be completed.

Detroit wants to include Ronald Dupree, which isn't necessarily something the Nuggets want. In addition, there are some concerns on Detroit's part about whether
Smith, who has had his share of problems on and off the court, would be a good fit with their current roster.

You may think he wouldn't be available for Beno - I think he'd come cheap... He just keeps piling up problems. Admittedly, I'm not sure I really want him on the Spurs, given his problems. But I'd rather see a different problem than Beno.

and i dont really think the spurs are going to extend JR when his rookie contract is up, he probably gets low balled by the spurs offer, seeinghim bolt to another team or demand a trade

I would rather keep Beno than trade for JR Smith.

Now, I hate Beno and his slothful ways. But JR Smith is a straight up cancer. One of the best things that ever happened to the Spurs was when that Brent Barry for JR Smith/Arvydas Macijauskas trade fell through.
