The Mavericks won the regular season series 3-1 against the Spurs last season, but which would you rather have -- the regular season series or a Championship?
He also went on to say that since the two never faced off during the playoffs, the regular season record is all that matters and since the Yankees won more regular season games they are the better team. The fact that the Yanks couldn't get past the first round is a "moot" point to this guy.

I made the point. His rebuttal was as follows, "Basketball and baseball are different."
Once upon a time, Yankee fans could cast their claims upon something more substantive than the regular season.
Alas, those days ended seven years ago.
How would he know? He doesn't watch baseball because he says its boring.
Red Sox are better than the Yanks and this is coming from a Yanks fan. Their Ace in Beckett has been brilliant this postseason and the Yanks "so called" ACE in Wang was awful. That is mainly why the Sox are where they are and the Yanks are done.
Yankees always have and always will be better then Boston. So Boston made it to the World Series for the 2nd time in a few years but we beat them every regular season and usually post season. Congrats to Boston on winning the AL Pennant but they have a long ways to go if you want to start comparing them to the Yankees.
The Yankees have a long way to go to being the Yankees again.
Read the thread. Nobody is comparing them to the Yankees. But this year's team is better than this years' Yankees. Period.
Why hasn't peewee responded??? I want to see some raising.
Yep, a long way to go. This distance is best conceived as the overall length of an elite starting rotation laid end-to-end, or @ 30 feet.

As currently constructed, the Yankees resemble the Nuggets' teams of the early '90s. The object of the game is not to score as much as possible, but score more than your opponent.
Anyone who thinks that the Yankees are better than Boston, or perhaps even most of the AL Central, is in for a rude awakening next season. Pet e, Clemens, and Mussina are all in their decline phases. IIRC, Clemens and Mussina aren't under contract for next year. So they will have to pick their poison. Overpay for pitchers no longer in their prime to stay with the team, overpay for new free agent pitching, or rely on the guys who were called up to start at the beginning of last season.
The Yankees desperately need to rebuild, but I doubt Steinbrenner has the patience. His "real players as baseball card collection" strategy isn't working. By the way, I haven't even addressed the possibility of a mass exodus of free agents yet...
If Peewee's not trolling out Midge, then he's an idiot.
