Whiplash from car accident will sideline Dolphins' Thomas on Sunday
DAVIE, Fla. -- Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas will miss Sunday's game against the Giants in London because of whiplash from a car accident.
Tests showed no other symptoms besides the whiplash, Miami coach Cam Cameron said Thursday, but doctors recommended Thomas rest and not travel. He was not at practice.
"Obviously, that's unfortunate," Cameron said. "But there are some guys that are going to step up."
The 0-7 Dolphins play New York in Wembley Stadium on Sunday in the NFL's first regular-season game outside North America. Thomas was tested for the injury Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
The middle linebacker and his wife were driving after the Dolphins' 49-28 loss to the New England Patriots last weekend when their vehicle was hit on Florida's Turnpike. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, they were rear-ended in stop-and-go traffic by a driver wearing Patriots attire. Thomas was wearing a seat belt.
"You can't replace Zach, that's for sure," defensive end Matt Roth said. "You've just got to make due without him."
Thomas' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Thomas had a sore neck and was tested for both possible concussion symptoms and whiplash. He said Thomas' received a "very good report."
"This is not a long-term problem, by any stretch," Rosenhaus said.
Thomas -- a 12-year league veteran who has made seven Pro Bowl appearances -- has missed two consecutive games this season because of a concussion. He is among a group of key Dolphins -- including quarterback Trent Green, safety Yeremiah Bell and running back Ronnie Brown -- who have been injured this season.
"We've just got to go out there and play and try to do our job the best way we know how," linebacker Joey Porter said. "It's not like it's the first time it happened this year."

We need help on defense. I know Dorsey is a heck of a player, but I don't see Cam passing on the greatest RB prospect in decades, especially since Brown cant stay healthy for a full season. He's not a typical Running Back prospect, he's something special. McFadden can also play receiver. Using Brown early in the game and then using McFadden, wow. Ronnie has never played a full season. The way Ronnie Brown runs the ball (injury). He isn't durable.
Cam offense scheme with LT was crazy. We saw what he was doing with Brown. Imagine what he can do with McFadden? Can't wait. McFadden is a freak of nature, total package.
ps. We are 0-7 because our d can't stop the run and the pass. Stupid Capers, do something.
