didn't see the game but the comments about him working scola makes me wonder how much he has improved and how big a factor he might be this season?

I think he could play a decent sized role this season. With Horry's minutes very erratic, Elson's production inconsistent and Mahinmi essentially a non-issue that leaves a lot of room for Matt. He has proven that he can spread the floor and put a lot of work in this offseason conditioning-wise, so I think the sky could be the limit for him. Hes such a scrappy player that I could see him becoming one of the coaching staff's favored players for his passionate play.

Exactly, people that look at his playoff numbers (especially minutes played) will think that hes an end of the bench guy. But thats hardly an accurate picutre. He was seriously starting to gel with the team before he got hurt and showed a lot of poise and potential. He simply got rubbed out of the rotation because by the time he got back it was nearly playoff time. I see him being a very nice system player and a phenomenal role player very shortly.

    Working Scola is nothing special.

Bonner looked good overall. The Spurs need him to crash the boards, knock down the 3, and generally be an irritant on the court ala Malik. Defense is the primary concern.

After looking at the box score, Bonner shot better than I thought (5-13, 2-3 on 3s), but I hated his form. It looked like he was shooting the ball from down around his crotch. Oh well, whatever works I guess.

If he gets us 12 and 6 every night and busts his ass playing hard, he'll be worth every penny of his contract.

The man thing for Bonner will be his defense. He's fine otherwise with his hustle, rebounding, and shooting. He can have a nice long Spurs career if he can get his rotations down. If he can step out on the court and defend someone, he'll be really nice.

The effort is there...he's just slooooooow, really slow. Slower than Ferry was.

He's never going to be a great defender...and I'm still not sold on how he handles pressure. Any time it's even a remotely big game he seems to struggle...I mean every single time, with consistency, he struggles.

What I do like about him is his hustle and his desire to get the tough rebound. With all the effort he puts into it, I think he can turn into a great rebounder if he picks some of Duncan's technique up.

He's got strength and bulk...the essentials for getting rebounds.

He seems to get big rebounds as well...and that's so important.

    Plus he's pretty physical.

Uhh, no. The "sky's the limit" for people like Kevin Durant. Matt Bonner's ceiling is quite a bit lower than that, to put it mildy. At best, he can be solid and valuable role player much like Robert Horry has been. At best.

Bonner stats per minute were very good last year. For example, he was Spurs best scorer per minute behind the big 3.
If he can play at the same pace than last year with more playtime and if he isn't a defensive liability, Bonner could be very good.
If you take Bonner last per min stats, you can expect 10 points and 6 rebounds in 24 mpg.
