Just got word from Spurs HQ. Darius Washington can officially stop holding his breath. The NBA roster deadline came and went this afternoon with the Spurs making no other transactions, meaning Washington will be on the team opening night.

How long he sticks remains to be seen. The tail end of an NBA bench has a tendency to fluctuate. But, for now, Washington is a Spur.

So congratulations to him. And good luck.

I kinda get the feeling that the Spurs were possibly looking at something else. Perhaps they were trying to claim Demetris Nichols off waivers and missed out.

Either something like that or they are really being ultra CIA to make sure Marcus Williams is available in the DLeague draft by pretending they don't even really want Washington.

Was there any real doubt, seriously? I'd be surprised they let him stick around while fiddling around elsewhere.

Now that Beno's gone, it seems relatively clear they meant to keep Washington all along.
