Teen heartbroken after break-in
Signed jersey most prized possession

KATHERINA Dubesky has had her greatest wish stolen by burglars.
The autographed jersey that San Antonio basketball star Tim Duncan signed for the 17-year-old during a trip organized two years ago by the Children's Wish Foundation was stolen from Dubesky's home Monday.
What makes the loss even tougher for the teen, who suffers from the potentially life-threatening rare disease Wegener's granulomatosis, is that the thieves may have targeted the jersey.
Besides the jersey, Dubesky also lost her computer and digital camera, but many other items in the house were left untouched. The jersey was not even on display -- it was just hanging on a hanger in her closet with the rest of her clothes.
"I've had a lot of things taken from me with this illness," a teary Dubesky said shortly after the break-in, her voice breaking.
"This is one case where I got something good out of this disease -- I met one of my heroes -- and it's like it was taken away from me.

It would be cool if we could send her some Spurs stuff.
I have a large banner from the 2005 championship that hung at SBC...
I hope it can be replaced.Nancy Yates, of the Wish Foundation, said the organization will try to contact Duncan, and his team the San Antonio Spurs, to see if they can send another jersey to replace the stolen one.
I'm sure he will replace it. That is so awful.

Duncan will probably sign a new one.
The thieves deserve their spines shattered among other things.
get the whole team to sign her a jersey
It makes me ill to read stories like this. I can't believe people can be so cruel.
I'm sure Duncan would be glad to sign a new one for her.
Karma will eat that guy alive...
check ebay.... guy's probably dumb enough
There's no doubt in my mind that Duncan will make it right. Plus some.
The person(s) that did this will pay sometime, somehow.
What goes around comes around.
I am sure Timmy will replace it...
I am not sick but i would like to add a personal story to this... last March.. someone broke into my house... and i have a home studio fully available to be ripped... instead.. they stole ALL my spurs gear that i have been saving for years.. when i came back home i felt lucky that none of the expensive studio equipment was touched.. but i fell to the floor and cried when i realized my two authentic Manu jersey's and Spurs training gear was stolen.. it was really hard for me... i am rebuilding now though!
This reinforces my belief in a supreme deity. I refuse to go on living life with the idea that the same end fate awaits the person who committed this transgression as someone who dedicates their life to helping people.
I wonder if we'll even find out that Duncan makes it right.
He'll probably do it with as little publicity as he can.
Maybe bring her to a game if she's well enough.
Whatever he does, unless the media grabs it, I don't think we'll ever know.
That's who he is.
This isn't about him, it's about this girl.
He'll stay as far out of the spotlight as he can while he makes it right.
you're right... that's the way i believe Timmy is... can;t say i KNOW as i have never had the pleasure of meeting him...
Was it generally known that she had the jersey?
If not, would stink of a job with insider knowledge.
People steal all the time. If I had something that would live with me for the next 60 years...I'd try to be a little more careful with locking it up.
I haven't met him either.
And I didn't mean to sound like I know anything.
It's just my take based on who Duncan shows us he is.
He's a team player, he's never been about individual recognition.
He stays out of the spotlight unless he has to be in it. (Post game press conferences, speaking at the ring ceremony or the Alamodome celebration, etc.)
I believe he will try to keep the focus on this girl and stay as far in the backround as he can.
It's the media that will try to make it about him.
if duncan decides to give the girl another jersey or other gifts it shouldn't be publicized. that will only make the girl a target again...sad but true.
Kinda like God goes about his business.
Critically ill girl
That's really ty...I hope they find out who that s bag is so the Spurs can send Robert Horry over to have a little "discussion" with the bas ...![]()
