Hedo easily. Turkoglu pretty much cost the Spurs the 2004 le.
Which player was more disapointing as a Spur, Beno or Hedo? Also, do you think it's likely that Beno will have an similarly productive career, as he matures? Is it an Eastern European type deal? It's interesting, at least concerning San Antonio and Eastern European players.
P.S. I'm not knocking the socio-culture, just to be clear.
Hedo easily. Turkoglu pretty much cost the Spurs the 2004 le.
Beno. Hedo only had one season. Lots of Spurs sucked their first season, though there is a good chance Hedo would have continued to disappoint.
Neither of them really give a , but Hedo can actually play basketball while not giving a .
Beno.
It was actually the Spurs response to what Phil did to contain Parker and their response was to give the ball to Duncan, did not work. In fact everybody started missing their outside shots, once the Lakers packed it in the paint(Tony, Manu, Bruce, Hedo etc...) and still we could have won that series, if it weren't for .4. Also, Parker got hot and cooled down at the wrong time. Parker shot an unbelievable percent from the three during the Memphis series and then cooled down after the 2nd game of the LA series.Turkoglu pretty much cost the Spurs the 2004 le.
Well, Beno forced us to play NVE in 06 -- did that help?
That was not his fault. Playa please!
And as to the question, I <3 both Hedo and Beno.
True, but mostly because Hedo was counted on more than Beno ever was. Hedo was a gifted choker. Beno's talent is less clear (at least in my mind) than Hedo's.
If you want to dump on an inconsistent underachiever, I would recommend Hedo before Beno. But both have/will probably play better once they leave the Spurs (damn them).
Whose fault was it then? The guy couldn't make a shot with no one within 10 feet of him. If Turkoglu plays at anything even proportional to his regular-season form, the Spurs win that series in 5. Turkoglu's head up his ass performance is the main thing that allowed LA to get away with putting four people in the paint to guard Duncan and Parker.
I'm still somewhat disappointed that Hedo never worked out. He was a nice two way player in the regular season for the Spurs (at least he was once he got going). He was the right profile for what the Spurs needed, a long 3 -- someone who could score and defend as a role player and displayed talent in Sacto. I was hoping Hedo could get 10-11 efficient PPG with solid defense as a Spur, but his poor play in the playoff sealed his fate. 2004 had some bad memories despite an excellent regular season.
For your comparison, I'd say Hedo. However Nick Van Exel was worse than both.
He'd get my immediate vote. Of course, I cursed RC and Pop the very minute they announced his acquisition - and still curse them today for it. Ugh!
So... you support the losers on the team. j/k![]()
Both wore number 14![]()
Hedo worked very hard when he was on the Spurs, so I do not see how anyone can compare him to Beno. The guy lost about 25 pounds over the summer. Then, he became the guy to stand at the 3 point line, even though that was not his game, because he was the closest thing the Spurs had to a pure shooter. He was a better defender than anyone ever gave him credit for and was the best rebounding SF the Spurs have had in years. People made him the 2004 scapegoat, but truth is EVERYONE started missing from outside-- including MANU and HORRY. People hated Hedo because Pop put him in the starting line-up and had Manu come off the bench. Isn't it funny, how the same thing happened each year, even after Hedo was gone. For the record, Hedo is playing very well in his 8th NBA season. He is averaging 20.8 PPG, 7.6 RBG, 4.6 APG, and 1.4 SPG. He will always be my second favorite Spur after Rasho.
I am not claiming that Hedo was series MVP.
I am just saying that basketball is a team game and as such no loss can be put entirely on one person.
That is true in regards to Hedo who is a favorite and is equally true when it comes to Nazr who is not.
Making it one of my favorite numbers, along with 5, 8, 12, 20, 21, 15, and now 19.
17's pretty cool too.![]()

Hedo came to camp about 30 pounds overweight and it took him until around the All-Star break to shed the weight. And even then, he was still about 10 to 15 pounds heavier than he is now.
Hedo plays well in years after he plays with his national team. If he doesn't play for Turkey, he balloons.
That was Pop's call.
Not trying to defend Beno in any way, but playing NVE was one of the worst Pop's decisions he ever made.
Amen. He knocks down a few shots in the playoffs and we're in the Finals... although that 2004 Piston team was pretty good. Would've been a great series.
beno contributer when it matters
and his rookie season in the playoffs was decent
hedo is a n veteran who we sign to solve those problems at the 3, but he dissappeared
Hedoyet. Beno never mattered. Hedo was a starter.
Beno, he's not even trying as a paid professional. Hedo, atleast he worked his ass into rotation -whether that was purely Pop decision to boost up his morale and make him a valuable contributor, that's another discussion to behold.
Actually, if only he didn't get a full MLE offer @max yrs allowed, i'd love to see him as a Spur for a decent contract -it's not like Barry who took his allocated money, doing all that much for our 2005 champ. campaign.
