James to have foot surgery
Knicks center placed on IR, out indefinitely
NEW YORK (AP) -- Knicks reserve center Jerome James will have surgery on his right foot Monday and be out indefinitely.
The oft-injured James hasn't played this season or during the exhibition season because of knee and foot pain. The surgery was decided upon after James had a bone scan, ultrasound, X-ray and MRI this week.
He will have a cyst and a small bone spur removed from the top of the foot.
The 7-foot-1 James has been a huge disappointment since signing a five-year, $30 million contract in the summer of 2005. He appeared in just 41 games last season, averaging 1.9 points, after playing in just 45 in 2005-06.
The Knicks acquired Eddy Curry shortly after signing James, immediately making James a backup.
"When we got Eddy Curry, that really changed everything," Knicks coach Isiah Thomas said. "The injuries for him, that's part of the game, I feel bad that he's been injured. That's how it goes sometimes in this league. Injuries are part of the game."
Luckiest in the world. Got a huge ass contract and will just ride the bench the whole time.
So he's finally going to have it removed from his mouth?
JJ will be sorely missed. Another tragedy for the snake-bit Knicks.![]()
I'm trying to decide between him and Darius Miles for the worst current contract in the NBA...it's a tough one.
Jerome James, Jared Jeffries two really bad FA signings. If you're the Knicks, avoid free agents with "JJ" initials.

"I don't have the first clue who he is talking about, because all I worry about is Jerome."
- Jerome James, on Nate McMillan's comments about players on Seattle being selfish.

.
I hope the Spurs team will visit him after the surgery and show him the rings.![]()
