Montel Vontavious Porter speaks tha TRUTH! Aight!

Actually, I really think he does. That team is nowhere near close to contending. They need a real PG, Bynum in two years, and some quality depth to go anywhere beyond the second round.

To be fair, I've been reading a bit on that board, and most Laker fans there are respectful of the Spurs. I haven't been to a Laker forum since... well, I almost can't remember, so this is news to me

To be fair, it's a really rough time to be a Lakers fan. I can absolutely see the point of the first post, and am inclined to agree with it. Though, I probably wouldn't if I were a fan (if that makes sense). I mean, to be hit with a ton of injuries like last year - probably not as likely. And their team does look better than the last 2 teams. But it doesn't matter.

Because they haven't improved enough - you've got FOUR teams competing well in our division (which means 2 of them will likely end up in the top four, and there is a really good shot at the leftover being a 5 seed, and a distinct possibility that NO could be as high as a 6 seed if they continue to play well and improve throughout the season).

The odds of Lakers winning their division are very low, which should automatically wipe them out of contention for a top 4 slot, and since the 5 slot should be going to the remaining Texas team, they are probably only contending for a 6-8 slot. You have to consider that both Utah and Denver are likely to make the playoffs.

So, at this rate, you would project that Top 4 would be Texas team, Suns, Texas team, Utah/Denver. Then in the 5-6 seed would be Utah/Denver and other Texas team. That leaves the 7-8 seeds, of which it currently appears (though it is very early for this projection) LAL, LAC (at this point in time), NO, POR will be fighting for. All of those other teams have better records (currently) than LAL. While you expect LAL to improve it's record, I would be worried if I were a fan. Those bottom 2-3 slots are going to be hotly contested in this conference. Given that, and the other situations, I would be inclined to agree that trading Kobe and shutting it down for rebuild mode is the best possible option.

All the bandwagoners left three years ago, so all that's left is the knowledgeable core of Laker fans.

The drooling idiots we remember from years past all rode the short bus 375 miles east on I-10.

Yeah...it's either rebuild or re-tool...trade Bynum and Odom for some talent now. With the way the current team is made up, I can't see them going far in the playoffs. They have the talent to be the 7th seed mind you, just with all of the Kobe BS, it's going to be tough....also Odom hurt his pinky tendon last night.....day to day....nice.

Huh??? Trade Bynum? Why would you do that? He's going to be a 20/10/3 guy for a decade.

Trade Kobe for picks and prospects and build the team from the ground up, follow Portland's example. Painful for the next couple of seasons, but you'll reap the rewards as the Spurs' dynasty is ending around 2010-12.
