Whatsup guys! Well this is a semi cheap-plug, but also a serious question. Me and my buddies are die hard Jack fans over at our new Warriors site DubsBall.com. We have come to love this guy even more since he came back and took us from a hopeless 0-6 start to a respectable 6-7 in like 2 weeks. Jack frequently mentions how he is a champion and he has a ring, (the most memorable instance was last year on TNT after a game when Charles Barkley was talking smack).

So anyways, I do remember Jack on the Spurs, and I personally always liked him, but I was wondering, how deep was his fan base and contributions to the organization from a Spurs fans prospective? How was it losing him for money issues? Do you guys still respect him now? Did you pre-judge him like the media did during the fight and his club incident? Let me know...and watch out for the Dubs, although, we just can't beat the Spurs or the Jazz, probably the only 2 teams we concede to.

SJAX was his nickname here.. He was lights out on occasion and other nights he was a turnover machine. We know you have to take the good with the bad and dont get me wrong he was more good than bad. I.E. Dallas Playoff victories and when we bounced L.A. and made Kobe cry on live tv (before his wife did!) So that being said there is alot of history with the Spurs and Jackson.. although We LOVED Jackson but Manu was ultimately the better choice for us then. SJAX demanded too much money then only to have to take a bottom barrel deal with ATL , then off to the Indiana days of mayhem, and then finally end up in a good situation in GS. I think I speak for the masses that Spurs fans will always have a soft spot for SJAX only because it was the Spurs who took a chance on a talent that hadnt been harnessed yet, he then turned that into a champion right before our eyes.

Wow... I guess I am not too surprised, just wanted to hear for assurance... ya his nickname did used to be SJax, then it was Jax, then the legendary coach (who trained your coach), his excellency Don Nelson, declared him Jack and thus the masses have conformed....

BTW funny story, in an interview the other day, Jack was talking to reporters during practice about Nellie:

"You know I never thought of all the people in the world that an old white guy would understand me the best..."

    Nellie overhears and looks over:

    "Old white guy?!"

The players in the background burst into laughter...Jack puts hands in the air and responds:

"Well I didn't wanna say old man!"

Nellie joins in and everyone does a double laugh. Thought that was great.

In his time in San Antonio:

    1) Jack went 8-8 from the three point line to kill the Lakers in a regular season game.
    2) He hit a game-winning three to beat Boston by 1.
    3) He hit a three at the buzzer to send the game into OT against Minnesota in a game the Spurs had no business going that far in (they had just beaten Dallas the night before in OT after Tony Parker hit the gamewinner with 2 seconds left, and the team was dead tired).
    4) He carried the Spurs in the first two games of the Phoenix series (the Suns were Spurs killers that year, and owned a 3-1 season series lead).
    5) He dragged the Spurs from 13 down in the fourth quarter of game 6 of the WCF in Dallas, starting the 23-0 run the Spurs used to win the game and the conference. I think he had about 25 points in that game.
    6) Hit a backbreaking three against the Nets in game 2 of the Finals with maybe 15-20 seconds left that put the Spurs in position to win on a monster comeback (he just missed the game-winning three).
    7) Had three three pointers in about a 3 minute span of the 4th quarter to bring the Spurs from 10 down in the fourth to win game 6 of the NBA Finals and the championship while eliminating Byron Scott's team (after Scott had said a lot of really bad things about Jack and about how he'd never be successful).

The guy's my third favorite Spurs player ever, and I've been a fan 22 years. I'll never get over the Spurs letting him walk. He's right there with Ginobili as the franchise's greatest clutch shooter.

His other nickname is "Buckets." I'm not sure who came up with that one.

WOW BASELINE! THATS AMAZING! YA I HAD A STRANGE EXPERIENCE... whoa turn off caps... I had a cool experience I went to a Dubs game last year early on when he was still with the Pacers, and Jack beat us at the buzzer with a 3... I was heartbroken...but at the same time, I was happy to see Jack was so strong to get through all the drama and still stay consistent on a bad team... and so when I heard he was coming to the Dubs I was ecstatic.

Hey I think us Warriors / Spurs fans can bond on 2 commonalities now, 1 being Jack, and 2 being our disgust with the Mavs LOL.

I think its derived from all of the Chuck Norris quotes floating around the internet.... The difference is, its actually true when talking about SJax.

I would truely not feel bad at all for the Warriors if the Spurs where able to steal him back from GS. The dude is the definition of 'stone cold killer' on the court. I still hate his agent to this day for demanding so much money from the Spurs, I honestly think Sjax was influenced too much by his agent at that time. Regardless they (his agent and him) where requesting too much money and letting him go was the right thing at that time.

I thought, if I remember correctly, that SJax during a press confrence was asked what he thought of the pressure of him taking a big shot and he replied:

    Pressure?

    I make love to pressure.

hahaha yesssss my first nemesis mavs fan on here! nice to meet you, let me start on a good note by saying I think it was awesome how Avery went after that ref the other night, but then again, that's just another unifying factor for mavs, spurs, and warrior fans ... the whole avery johnson has played on each team and was mentored by nellie thing... good times.

Nice to see a fan of another team come on here with a general interest in hoops and not log in solely to troll Spurs fans. Props to you. I enjoyed watching SJax play and my favorite moment in his tenure here is definitely his play in that conference-clinching game against the Mavs in '03, but there were many more.

The comment in 2003 about Stephen that stuck with me was that "he keeps both teams in the game".

He's pure scorer, hit some big shots in the 2003 playoffs, which we are all grateful for (but for which he doesn't merit Spurs canonization) but he didn't rack up much in the way of RB and AST and floor play to offset his TOs and low bball IQ.

He wouldn't have made any difference in 2004 vs Lakers, the whole Spurs team and coaches ed up beyond what SJax could have contributed.

Assuming we win the first two games with Jack, I think he helps us step on the Lakers throat in either games three or four. His at ude alone would have carried us.
