SAN FRANCISCO, EE.UU.- Escribir algo importante cuando las cosas están saliendo tan bien me cuesta un poco. No es fácil.
Nunca los Spurs arrancaron una temporada con un récord de 17-3; estamos anímicamente muy bien y jugando con mucha confianza, especialmente en la ofensiva, donde todo nos sale fácil. Tenemos altos porcentajes de eficacia, con un 40% de aciertos en triples, algo que no es habitual en nosotros. De todos modos, esto no va a durar 80 partidos, no hay que creérsela. Apenas transcurrió la cuarta parte de la temporada. Falta mucho todavía. Ni somos el mejor equipo de la historia de los Spurs ni nos aseguramos el campeonato. En la montaña rusa de la NBA hay que ser mesurado. Acá perdés tres partidos seguidos y te fuiste para abajo.
No es fácil acertar en la toma de decisiones como lo estamos haciendo en la ofensiva. Hay que ser cautos. Además, somos uno de los peores equipos de la NBA en cantidad de tiros acertados por el rival. Tenemos que corregir eso. Lo estuvimos hablando en estos días con Popovich. Los adversarios nos embocan con alta eficacia y si ganamos igual es porque en el ataque nos salen todas. Pero no nos va a durar todo el año esa eficacia.
En lo personal, se nota que empecé muy dulce . Estoy fino y me salen todas. Y quiero aclarar que esto no es exclusivamente por mi ausencia en la selección a mediados de año; son muchas cosas, entre ellas la preparación especial que hice con anticipación y que ya comenté en esta columna.
Lo increíble es que nunca había anotado 37 puntos en mi carrera y ahora llegué a esa cifra dos veces seguidas. Sí, ya sé, muchos habrán pensado que aposté ese número en algún juego de azar; pero no, no lo hice, no tengo esa costumbre.
Me encantó y me puso muy feliz meter 37 y ganar dos partidos importantísimos ante rivales clave del Oeste (Dallas y Utah). Si metés 50 y no ganás no sirve de nada, está claro. Eso sí, significó una gran esfuerzo porque ante la ausencia de Tim (Duncan, por lesión) tuve que jugar 39 minutos por partido y terminé fulminado . Después de Utah no daba más, por suerte nos tocaron tres días sin partidos y Popovich nos dio descanso absoluto antes de jugar (anoche) con Golden State.
Aproveché para hacer un tratamiento especial en la mano que todavía tengo algo inflamada después de la lesión ante Portland y para tomar baños en la pileta de agua helada para acelerar la recuperación.
También descansé mucho, miré unas pelis y nos comimos unos asados con Fabri (Oberto), que lo tenemos de hijo en casa. Como la esposa se fue a visitar a su familia a la Argentina, Fabri se pasa el día con nosotros.
Respecto de Tim y su lesión en la rodilla y el tobillo derechos, parece que todo está mejorando. Ayer dijo que iba a jugar unos minutos con Golden.
El tobillo se le había inflamado bastante y le dolía, pero estuvo entrenándose en los últimos días y parece bastante recuperado. Estaba preocupado por la lesión y los juegos importantes en los que no iba a estar en el equipo.
Además de tener el mejor récord del Oeste y estar jugando bien, los otros rivales clave de la Conferencia están perdiendo partidos inesperados, como Phoenix con Minnesota y Miami esta semana; los tres seguidos de Dallas hace unos días o este récord no positivo (11-11) de Houston, que nadie suponía antes de comenzar la temporada.
Repito, estamos dulces y jugando bien, pero esto sólo nos da la tranquilidad de saber que tenemos margen para soportar errores, que hay un colchoncito para aguantar cuando las cosas no salgan todo lo bien que deseamos.

The incredible thing is that i never scored 37 in my career (uhh, yes you did manu!) and now i've done it twice. Yes, i know, many will think that i bet on 37; but no, i dont gamble!
I loved it and it made me very happy to score 37 and win 2 games against western playoff rivals (Dallas y Utah). If you score 50 and lose its worthless, obviously. it must be said, it was a great effort because we're missing Tim (Duncan, por lesión) I had to play 39 mpg and ended up gassed. His ankle was pretty swelled up and painful, but he practiced the last couple days and looks almost recovered. He was worried about the injury and missing important games.
