SAN DIEGO (AP) -- LaDainian Tomlinson took over the NFL rushing lead and scored on a 17-yard run to help the AFC West champion San Diego Chargers take a 16-0 halftime lead over the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
Tomlinson came into the game with 1,311 yards, 5 shy of Pittsburgh's Willie Parker. Parker broke his lower right leg Thursday night and is out for the rest of the season.

The reigning league MVP, Tomlinson is trying to win his second straight rushing le. He had 80 yards on 15 carries in the first half to push his season total to 1,391. This is his fourth straight season with 15 rushing touchdowns. He set NFL records last year with 31 touchdowns, 28 of them rushing.
Tomlinson's closest pursuer is Minnesota rookie Adrian Peterson, who has 1,305 yards after being held to just 27 yards on nine carries in a loss to Washington on Sunday night. Peterson set the NFL single-game record of 296 against San Diego on Nov. 4.
Broncos safety John Lynch drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty -- and the wrath of the crowd -- after tackling Tomlinson following a 2-yard run. Tomlinson's helmet came off and Lynch took it with both hands and threw it about 10 yards.
A few plays later, Lynch went out of his way to go over to L.T. and shake his hand.
Lynch went to high school in San Diego and won the Super Bowl on this field in January 2003 while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Tomlinson scored late in the first quarter. He was on the sideline for San Diego's final drive of the half.
The Chargers need to win out to secure the AFC's No. 3 playoff seed. That would mean a trip to Indianapolis rather than New England for the divisional round, providing, of course, they win their wild-card game. San Diego is on a four-game postseason losing streak.
San Diego won four straight and eight of 10 coming in, including 41-3 at Denver on Oct. 7.
It was a rough first half for Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, who was born in Santa Claus, Ind. Cutler was sacked four times, the first one coming when he was hit by Luis Castillo and fumbled on the opening drive. Pro Bowl outside linebacker Shawne Merriman recovered. Castillo returned after a six-game layoff following ankle surgery.
San Diego's Nate Kaeding kicked field goals of 40, 23 and 29 yards.
Phillip Rivers just reminded me of the guy that yells out of his car window at you and then drives away.....what a ing pussy.
For a guy that is never going to win anything in the NFL for his entire career other then a division crown from time to time, Rivers should back the up and recognize that he is a second rate quarterback in the NFL and should maybe avoid looking like a sucking head by talking to a team and quarterback that are obviously in over their heads this season.
YOU STAY CLASSY SAN DIEGO. ENJOY NOT WINNING ANOTHER SUPER BOWL AND MANY, MANY MEDIOCRE SEASONS FROM YOUR "STAR" QUARTERBACK.
Wasn't San Diego the same team that was literally crying because they thought the Pats showed too little class last year after getting emberassed?
Phillip Rivers, I hope he gets hit by a ing bus on his way home.
How's the Jay Cutler era working out for you guys thus far?![]()
dude cutlers in his 2nd year and hes already better than phillip rivers in this 4th..... i guarantee cutler has a better career than phillip rivers
We all know how well your guarantees work out.
A second rate QB that is 15-1 as a starter at home. Enjoy Cutler.
Rivers also has the second most wins for a starter in NFL History through 31 games, but I agree, he is second rate.
johnsmith, which one of these posters is you?
"will cutler punch out rivers when the game is over?"

Ok, I was a touch faced last night while typing in this thread. Funny thing though, I don't even post in the Broncos forum. Anyway, a sober johnsmith wouldn't have given a about Rivers talking , a drunk one thought it was threatening.
I still say Cutler is going to be a consistent pro bowler in this league. As you and many others that watched a couple of the Broncos games this year can attest, it's not his fault they suck.
I still say the Broncos failed to score a single touchdown on the Chargers this year.
i still say the chargers wont make it out of the first round this year...... wanna sig bet that one TSA?
