76ers acquire G Giricek from Utah for F Korver

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Philadelphia 76ers acquired guard Gordan Giricek and a first-round draft pick from the Utah Jazz for guard Kyle Korver on Saturday.
Giricek, 6-foot-5, averaged 4.3 points in 22 games for the Jazz this season and has career average of 9.8 in six seasons.
"We are excited about acquiring a player of Gordan's ability, as well as an additional asset in the form of a first-round draft pick," 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski said. "This move will provide us with increased salary cap flexibility this offseason and also allows us to continue our evaluation and development of the young talent we have on this team."
Korver averaged 10.0 points in 25 games with the 76ers and was their top 3-point threat. Korver played four seasons with Philadelphia, averaging 10.5 points and shooting 42 percent.
"I want to thank Kyle for the positive impact he has made on this team and the city of Philadelphia through his play on the court and, even more importantly, his philanthropic efforts off of it," Stefanski said.

Damn, Korver on the Jazz is pretty scary. He can shoot with the best of them. He does have a bad contract but still, he makes the Jazz better. Giricek is an underrated defender but other than that he pretty much sucks.

Good deal for us. We get rid of a team cancer and the draft pick starts in 2009 and is protected up to 7 years. I like Korver and can't wait to see him in a Jazz uniform.

Yeah, good pick up for the Jazz....I would of liked the Lakers to pick up Korver....oh well.

Nice for the Jazz. Korver is a great shooter and should be good off the bench, and they have no need for draft picks anymore - win for now.
Where did it say they got rid of Jerry Slone?
Are you saying you'd rather have Giricek as a player then Sloan as a coach?
As far as I am concerned, both can take a pink slip. Problem is, Slone is more often part of the problem than the solution... Unless mediocrity is the goal.
I don't think very highly of him as a coach.
Giricek is not a good defender but he's an average defender. Korver does not know how to play defense and does not play defense.
Anyone know why the 6ers are keeping around Andre Miller? He is a solid point guard and there are several teams who would become instantly better with him.
Either way, great deal for the Jazz. They have another option to use. Scary.
Good grab for Utah...but what's going on w/ Morris Almond? I thought he would be the outside shooter they needed. Guess he's not coming along too quickly.

Right now, Almond is an even worse defender than Korver. And Korver might be a top five worst defender in the league.
So, Utah traded a player Sloan hated for one he's going to hate? Kudos.
