Former Spur, Malik Rose offered up his assessment on the Knicks and whether they have the ingredients to be an eventual championship contender, as Isiah so boldly proclaimed this week.

Knicks' Rose: We Don't Have What It Takes For le
    January 4, 2008 - 5:24 am

    New York Post -
Malik Rose, who won two rings with the Spurs, knows the ingredients needed in a championship team, so he knows what the Knicks lack. Contrary to Isiah Thomas' proclamation, Rose said the Knicks don't have what it takes inside the locker room to be a winner.

Rose said the Knicks are not like the Spurs, whom they face tonight. When it comes to the makeup of the players, it's not even close. Rose referred to "heart," but also seemed to be referencing work ethic and ability to handle adversity.

"There are things that are different (in San Antonio) than here," said Rose, in his fourth season with the Knicks. "There are a few small things . . . that are the difference between winning and losing. In some instances you have to be born with them. In some instances you can work to get them. We need more of those things."

Rose also said the Knicks are made up of many disparate parts without any continuity, as opposed to the Spurs, the prime example of constancy.

ROSE: WE DON'T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES FOR LE
    By MARC BERMAN

January 4, 2008 -- Malik Rose, who won two rings with the Spurs, knows the ingredients needed in a championship team, so he knows what the Knicks lack. Contrary to Isiah Thomas' proclamation, Rose said the Knicks don't have what it takes inside the locker room to be a winner.

Rose said the Knicks are not like the Spurs, whom they face tonight in a potential blowout.

"You have eight, nine guys there who've spent tons of time together," Rose said of the Spurs. "This team (the Knicks) has been put together over the last couple of years, we have young guys, draft picks, we have free agents, we have trade guys. It takes time to mesh that together and we're not there yet. We have some weird personalities, different personalities on this team."

Rose said his teammates are pressing too much for fear of failure or perhaps fear of being yanked from the lineup in one of Isiah Thomas' constant shuffles.

Rose said as a result, a player doesn't always use "what God gave you, your talents and creativity. What we're doing here is we're overthinking. We're not reacting."

Rose is a close friend of Tim Duncan's and has his family in San Antonio. He would love a trade to a contender but doesn't foresee one to the Spurs for a second stint.

"It was some of the best moments of my life," Rose said. "Unfortunately it's in the past. I'm going to remember it and treasure it always. That part of my life is behind me and behind them also."

Fresh off his ejection for throwing his headband, Zach Randolph left practice early with flu-like symptoms, as did Renaldo Balkman. Both made the trip to Texas.

He knows the Spurs have no need for an old and undersized power forward.

    I miss Malik.

I know Malik's sat more than he's played recently, but I hope Isaiah plays him tonight- at least for a little bit.

Malik didn't really say something bad in this article. I doubt he will be sanctioned for that.
I don't know if Rose should have said that. He isn't an analyst but a Knicks player with a big salary. He is in NY to bring these "few small things . . . that are the difference between winning and losing" not to say that the team needs them. If he isn't able to bring that, he just should STFU.

"ROSE: WE DON'T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES FOR LE"

Just brilliant. This comment really needed to be made.

His off-court IQ is very close to his (03-4) on-court IQ.
I haven't seen him lately. Has he got his jiggly overweight down to its 02-03 level?

I don't think he should have said that. I agree with what he said though. They don't have what it takes. Its obvious. Zeke is the biggest problem. He put that team together and does not know how to coach. If I was one of Malik's teammates, I'd be upset about what he stated, but its true though.

I feel bad for Malik. Its gotta be frustrating as to win 2 rings with a team you love, then get traded mid-way through another le year to an-ultra crappy team.
He must look around, sigh and shake his head constantly.

there are things that don't need to be said and then there things that do need to be said. sometimes the things that need the most to be said are the things that are blatantly obvious. the new york situation with isiah thomas is one of such things that needs to be said since it is painfully obvious to everyone not named isiah thomas and jim dolan that they suck with thomas at the helm.

they had a kid arrested for selling t-shirts with "hate the coach" printed on it. chances of your wish being granted is slim to none. but given thomas' state of mind, its a toss up.

He probalby said it cause he doesn't care at this point. Maybe he needed to say it as a wake-up call. Maybe he even gets somebody angry over there and that gives them some energy. After all, I can't judge a guy who's been playing 4 years in a less than mediocre team that has no chemistry and is going nowhere after winning 2 rings with the most constant team in the league. Go figure.

Well, considering he has asked to be inactive until they trade him, and he's played a few minutes in nearly every game since, that might just be his goal.

He must be earning about a hundred-thousand dollars per point scored this season, so it's not all bad.

Tell it like it is, Malik.

At this stage of his career with that worthless team he might as well speak his mind. If his coach can sexually harass female employees then Malik can spout off here and there.

I'm suprised that Miami doesn't recieve as much attention as NY, because they have worse record.

Miami hasn't been doing this perennially for 5 years.

What I really don't understand is how Scott Skiles can get the boot for having a overrated Chicago team come back down to Earth, but Isiah Thomas still has a in' job when the once-mighty Knicks are now literally the joke of the league.
