Scott Rolen might have been traded to the Jays for Troy Glaus as reported by Ken Rosenthal!
which begs the question...why? they're practically the same guy.
The Cardinals wanted the Blue Jays' china doll and offered their own in exchange.
They are the same guy with the same paycheck, but maybe the new one will get along with Tony and won't be a when he gets benched for a hotter hitter.
Glaus isn't as good defensively, but is twice the power hitter.
All of Glaus's injury problems have stemmed from playing on that damn astroturf.
The grass should help.
Shame to see Rolen go, he was my favorite player.
Glaus hits more HRs, but is not twice the power hitter - Rolen actually usually posts a higher SLUG%.
However, that's chalking up 2 of his last 3 years to injury. If you think that's more due to a fall off in play than injury, then Glaus is better power hitter.
Glause in 06 when he played the full season (153 games)
had 40 and 135
Damn, heres to hopin hes healthy for the very least 140!!
Scot Rolen is a whiney little .
Troy Glaus is a steroid junkie.
You know, I really liked Rolen at one time, but when he just couldn't get over the whole him vs Tony thing, I think it was time for him to go. He had the same type problem in Philly that led to his exit. I expect he will have a couple stelaar 1st years in Tornonto and then play like and to get out.
The Jays now have 1/2 of the Cards infield.
I really was hoping the rift between him and Tony that started at all places, the NLCS game 2 against the Mets, was a media fabrication.
Apparently it wasn't.
My father is happy, he never liked Rolen
Now if they traded Mulder for a good pitcher hed be one happy mfer. Of course he thinks the cardinal's ownership is cheap, and after this past offseason he does have a point. THey haven't spent hardly any money at all.
actually, it makes sense for the Cardinals not to spend money this offseason. there aren't really any free agents out there that are going to put them over the top. i believe they are smart enough to do an actual rebuild.
...as opposed to the Orioles who keep spending money on mediocre players who are just good enough to win 70-75 games a year.
Yeah not this year, but next year is when the Cardinal's farm system is gonna pay dividends with Perez, Rasmus, Mather, Hoffpauer and others.
Hoff and Mather might be on the big leagues this year. They also got this supposed stud in the outfield from the Rule 5 draft from Cleveland named Barden.
This season will be tough, but Clement is decent, and Mulder can pitch mediocre to decent, then they could win the division.
Rasmus is a flat out stud, going to be a star sooner than later.
I do still think you over-value most of the rest of the farm though. Outside of a huge ceiling guy like Rasmus, every club in baseball can sport prospects like the other guys you mentioned. Perez should be alright in the pen, but the rest of those guys might pan out, but they probably won't.
Word is, he might be just thrown into the fire and be put on the big league club and get the center fielder job.Rasmus is a flat out stud, going to be a star sooner than later.
Dunno how I feel about that, but what the why not? Season is shot anyways.
most clubs are willing to jump a kid from AA to the bigs now (the actual talent disparity between AA and AAA is minimal - it's just that AAA has some guys who are craftier and have big league experience).
and rasmus flat out dominated AA.
Rolen will put the Jays over the top against the Red Sox!![]()

Nobody in the East is catching the Sox next year obviously. But it's not completely outlandish for the Jays or even the Rays (if they mature as fast as the Rockies did last year) talking about making a run at the Yankees if they catch some good breaks and Yankees catch some bad ones.
The Yanks will take a nose dive next season. They will still be a serious playoff contender but that is about it. They havent been a championship contender since the 2004 ALCS.
I tell u what, the Al is gonna come down to the Sox and The Tigers...look at this
C -Ivan Rodgriguez
1B-Carlos Gullien
2B-Placido Palanco
SS-Edgar Renteria
3B-Miguel Cabrera
LF-Jauque Jones
CF-Curtis Granderson
RF-Magglio Ordonez
DH-Gary Sheffield
Bench-Brandon Inge
Pitchers-Dontrelle Willis (overrated but still good)
Jeremy Bonderman
Joel Zumeya, ect
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
The in Tigers got Renteria!?!?
I totally missed that.
, the in Tigers are goddamn LOADEDDDDDD
Yeah, they traded two of their top five prospects to the Braves. Pitcher Jair Jurrens and OF Gorkys Hernandez. Both are extremley young and Jurrens is already expected to compete for the 4th or 5th spot. So being a Braves fan I am excited about the Braves present and future. Yes I will miss Edgar, but Yunel Escobar is young, talented, and most importantly ready. But yeah, the Tigers are pretty much loaded.
BTW, getting Rolen has not made the Jays instant contenders.
No, but they already have a line-up and a pitching ace that can easily compete with the Yanks and Bosox.
Keeping Burnett healthy and watching Mar , Litsch, and McGowan (one of the best young starting trios in baseball) progress is what would make them instant contenders (at least for the wildcard).
Of course Rolen and Eckstein their 3rd and ss, will be hurt half the year, so their young backups better be ready.
