Suns notebook: Amaré amazed by Bryant's shot totals
    By Jerry Brown
    Tribune

LOS ANGELES - Amare Stoudemire knew Kobe Bryant had scored 48 points in Monday's overtime win over Seattle, but he didn't know Bryant took 44 shots in the game. Barbosa, Marion lead Suns past Lakers, 106-98
Read Jerry Brown's Blog, Rim Shots

"That's unbelievable, taking 44 shots. Are you serious?" Stoudemire said after Wednesday's practice. "If I ever took 44 shots, you can put me down for 70 (points)."

But by Thursday, Stoudemire had revised his prediction. "Make that 80 points," he said with a smile. "If I'm shooting that much, I'm on, so I'm going to hit 30 (field goals). So with the free throws, I could be good for 80."

Maybe he's right. The most shots Stoudemire has ever taken in a game is 27. He hit 20 of them (74 percent), going for a career-high 50 points against Portland (Jan. 2, 2005). At that same pace, he would have gone 33-for-44 that night, giving him 66 points before free throws.

I wonder if Kobe's elbow was still sore from shooting so much and that was why he was so passive in the second and third quarters?

    Whats Kobe gonna do?

    Shoot MORE?

Or do you expect his Lakers teammates to ban together to defend Kobe against not passing to them?

^Let's see Amare win a playoff series without Nash

Regardless, this is kind of like the pot calling the kettle black. Amare is making fun of Kobe taking 44 shots and scoring 48 points when he himself has gone on record saying he needs more touchs and shots himself.

Keep it up Amare.....keep it up.....what a paper soilder....one dimensional game and if it wasn't for Nash, he'd be sunk. K-mart 2......Oh, and ask him how it feels to have a guy 20 years old school last game. if STAT says this than give him the rock...why wouldn't you want a guy shooting 40 shots and saying he can hit all of them....give him the ball. I'm going to start calling him Wilt.

    That's the thing.

Amare is incapable of manufacturing 44 shot attempts in a single game. He needs to be given the ball and set up by a teammate. He can't go one on one every single time down. And, if he could, he wouldn't shoot over 50% from the field.

That's part of the incredible thing about Kobe. The vast majority of even NBA players can't get up that many shots in a game. And, most of them would be tired towards the end, especially if most of the shots were jumpers and acrobatic, contested lay-ups. Attempting over 40 shots in a game is almost as amazing as scoring 60+ points. When teams focus on one player who is going off from the floor, that player shouldn't be able to get 40+ shots off.

for amare to take 44 shots, he would need Nash to pass him the ball 40+ times

Nash is great but he can't make miracles

Im really going out on a limb here, but Kobe is the best individual player in the league. His primadonna act is what it is, fact remains, hes a baller.

    End of story.

The bulletin board material theory is stupid. As crappy as the Suns have played this season, they aren't scared of the Lakers. Heck, they beat the Lakers without Amare two seasons ago. The Lakers will only win in the playoffs if Andrew Bynum is healthy.

So if Andrew Bynum is healthy by then, you would concede that the Lakers would win?

I thinks its fair to say that the Suns without Nash would be like the current Lakers without Shaq.

    First round fodder.

If Bynum is healthy, the Lakers are a threat to beat anyone. But I don't think any team in the West would be scared to play them.

Amare Stoudemire just got his butt kicked by Kaman..Then he plays a team missing their 1 & 2 center & he is feeling it

Bynum has owned Amare this season...

Absolutely. The more shots he takes, and the more points he scores, the better the Suns do. It's been proven.

I wish they could realize that. Especially in the 3rd quarter is when they need to go to Amare, and sometimes they lose because they don't go to him in the 3rd quarter.
