I know some smart ass is going to come in this thread and say, "So what, she has millions of dollars, she should contribute." But I think this is pretty damn cool, she's giving when a lot of others aren't. I met her at one of her premiere parties (I think Speed2) a few years ago and she's the only actress I've met that is better looking in real life than in the movies.

Sandra Bullock donates $1 mil for tsunami
Actress makes donation to American Red Cross
Monday, January 3, 2005 Posted: 9:59 PM EST (0259 GMT)

NEW YORK (AP) -- Actress Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help relief efforts in countries affected by the deadly earthquake and tsunamis in southern Asia and eastern Africa.

Bullock, whose screen credits include "Miss Congeniality," "While You Were Sleeping" and "Speed," contacted the American Red Cross last week, the organization said Monday.

She also donated $1 million after the September 11 terror attacks.

"At this critical time, I am grateful to Sandra Bullock for once again demonstrating her leadership, compassion and belief in our global humanitarian mission," said American Red Cross President and Chief Executive Officer Marsha Evans in a statement.

"Sandra continues to enable our lifesaving work and is a model for personal generosity."

Any dip that comes in and dimishes this needs to have their ass kicked. My mom and I were talking about this earlier, as well as another lady's 22 Million donation becasue we were listening to NPR.

I think it's incredible, because a million bucks is a million bucks. Way to ing go man, seriously.

Last I checked, France had pledged 55 million. The donation total has now well exceeded 2 Billion in hard donations. The US had pledged 350 million. Japan recently pledged 500 million. The World Bank released 250 million. Those are the three biggest donations that I am aware of.

That same guy I wonder still believes we should be taxed 80% and give our money to a world government, so that it shoudl be distributed.

Im gonna take a flying leap and think that USA gives quite a bit of our hard earned money to them as well.

The $1million is twice what she made for Speed and more than she made for Speed and The Net combined.

This article says she makes $12+ million per film now. But that's neither here nor there. It's just great that she's giving. Supposedly DiCaprio gave a "substantial" sum to Unicef for the Tsunami relief as well.

When you hear about amounts being pledged by World Organizations I can't help but be reminded of the child (many world relief organizations) that decides to make a purchase or to donate money to a cause only to turn to their mom or dad (America) and ask for the money.

Through our foreign aid package, our immediate pledge and forthcoming 350 million (surely to rise to an amount that will eclipse every other giving en y on the face of the planet), our deployment of milions of dollars worth of military assets, our private fund raising (already in the 150 to 200 million dollar range with some going to foreign or international bodies such as UNICEF and IRC); I'm certain, the U.S. has and will continue to be the most benevolent and giving nation on the face of the planet...we're just more diversified in our charity and less prone to counting the pennies along the way.

In fact, had the UN, the EUnuchs, and the Liberal Left not started haranguing the President on December 27th about how little the U.S. was doing, we wouldn't be having this conversation and the President, Secretary Powell, and other good solid Americans, such as Sandra Bullock, would not have to be divulging how generous we really are...we would have just quietly done what we always do in a disaster, provide relief, comfort, and aid to those in need.

lots of vanessa's in this world when you got the jack and the fame.

problem is, the btch would want HALF....at least.

after reviewing ms. bullocks list of movies, i'd have to say most of them suck.
how she's getting 8 figures a flick is beyond me. i saw speed, wywsleeping (wifey drug me, i swear), and a time to kill.....i happened upon congeniality while channel surfing one day....skipped all the others....but she's a nice gal...so power to her.
