There is too much money being made with the current tax system to change it. A simplified tax structure would put a lot of people out of work and unless we're sacrificing lives over money via war we refuse to accept such a massive structual change for the better.

The "downtime" and upfront loss would never be accepted no matter how much better it would be 5,10,15 years down the road. We live in a "now" society and things are just to complicated or ed to ever convince the "now" world to make the difference.

....if by 'better' you mean less progressive then I disagree...although I do think that some exemptions, deductions and these rebates(?) have gotten out of control...I think more people should pay into the system, or at least stop all these rebates, but I also agree that those at the top should pay more....
