Eh, I'd say it's a push...
Interesting that there are currently two teams in the midst of a nine-game road trip. Thanks to some excellent digging from our man Michael Jackson of ESPN Research, we discovered that there had only been 12 such trips before this season, dating to the NBA/ABA merger for the 1976-77 season.
Of those 12 trips, only four teams managed to post a winning record. The most recent example is San Antonio in 2003, when the Spurs used an incredible 8-1 surge as the springboard for halting the Los Angeles Lakers' three-peat run in what wound up as the club's second of four championships since 1999.
In the present, San Antonio is 1-2 so far on its nine-gamer after winning in Phoenix without Tony Parker (and Brent Barry) on Thursday night. The Lakers narrowly lost their trip's opener Thursday in Detroit, but they might be banged up worse than the Spurs with Andrew Bynum and Luke Walton and Trevor Ariza out.
No one's feeling sorry for the Lakers now after the Gasol robbery, but I did ask Kobe Bryant recently about a week before anyone had a clue that Pau would be arriving to fill the Bynum void -- whom the Lakers possibly could have upset in the scheduling office to get banished to the road for 15 straight days. Kobe's reply: "It's better to say you have to be gone that long because of the Grammys [taking over Staples Center] than because of a rodeo."

Eh, I'd say it's a push...
I guess he is right. Grammys are indeed more glamorous...
Most of the acts and events at the rodeo are more entertaining.
I'd rather watch Mutton Busting than some 120 lb white dude about how much life sucks at the top of his lungs after 3 lines of coke and getting blown by 4 groupies.
it's kobe's willingness to understand other cultures. Atleast he didn't call the rodeo a gathering of hicks.
is the writer's strike over? i think it's more glamorous to be banished for an event that happens.
Celebs are just as lame as stoopid livestock.
Oh wait, it's the people who drool over celebs that are livestock.
Kobe should try his hand at rodeo clowning....
it's not A rodeo it's THE Rodeo
Eh, I think Kobe's just being funny here. Does it really sound like a serious comment? He knows the Spurs turn it on at this time of the year, so he's probably just taking his shot now when he can, before they (likely) go on a tear and end up with the #2 seed in the West.
it's bulls and blood
it's dust and mud
it's the roar of the sunday crowd
it's the white in the knuckle
the gold in the buckle
he'll win the next go round
it's boots and chaps and cowboy hats
it's Spurs and let 'em go
it's the ropes and the reigns
it's the joy and the pain
in the thing they call rodeo
ahh yes, the grammys. where a song whose original lyrics were "let's get re ed" can win music's most prestigious honor.
I do agree with him for once, I prefer sweet blondies instead of dirty cows
I actually agree with Kobe on this one. The rodeo blows and plus the arena smells horrible when it's over and the Spurs come back.
if you can't appreciate a rodeo then you are not a real Texan. that is indisputable.
Kobe is right...
Bunch or red necks hicks!
Kobe's right. Fake boobies > cow sh...
No it doesn't it just means i don't live up to the stereo-type that most people have of Texans. It's just not my thing.
The culture of the sport of basketball is probably as far away from the culture of the Rodeo as you can get.
Hip Hop, Rap and the "glamour" of the Grammy's are prolly more in tune with the sport.
Me? I'll take the Horses... and Allison Krause, Taylor swift, Faith Hill...
prolly in that order too.

The rodeo celebrates animals that we eat. Most people couldn't live without meat.
The Grammy's? Who honestly gives a about Hollywood? It could fall off the coast into the ocean tomorrow and no one would miss it or the idiots in it.
The Grammys are an essential ins ution without which we might never have known that Christopher Cross' self- led debut was the best album of 1980.
All I know is that unless all of Hollywood s in the staples center having it taken over by the grammys is MUCH better.
It's not my thing either, but rodeos are genuinly Texan and it sounds like you've never even been to one so what would you know? And the reason people believe that to be a sterotype is because of fake "Texans" like you propogating it as such.
kobe, john says hi
