It sounds like you want the actual system and games, but if you just want to play NES games, fceu is a great emulator for the PC. The games play just like they did on the real NES, minus the blowing into the cartridge and the annoying flashing blue screen resets.

I have a looooooooooooooooot more games. ~50 console games, ~80 PC games. Don't play them much anymore tbh. I've played so many games that everything feels the same. Rarely something like Portal or CoD4 will innovate and I'll play it a while, but I just can't put in heavy hours anymore, I get... bored.

If you don't own the original system and cartridge, yes, technically, the emulator and the ROM file would be illegal. The only thing is, nobody with any power to do anything about ever does. Couple years ago, I had upwards of 5 GB of illegal ROMs. SNES, NES, Genesis, N64, Playstation, etc. I've never gotten any for it.
