First he rapes the Lakers and takes Shaq for Odom, Butler, Briant Grant, and filler. Then he trades an aging over-the-hill Shaq back for Shawn Marion. This guy has been raping GM's left and right.

Yeah, I think Riley looks like the genius here. He pulled off the blockbuster to squeeze one more le out of Shaq, and now that the Heat are tanking their season and have no chance of even making the playoffs, he unloads him in order to focus on rebuilding next year.

I gotta give Riley credit for this trade though, What did they save, like the rest of Shaqs salary this year and another 20 mil next year that would of been a complete waste.

The Heat just gave up $20 mil in salary, and are now taking on $21 mil. The Suns are actually the ones saving money here.

Man, think Riley will be pissed if Marion doesn't opt out?

$20 mil in a 35 yr old fat, lazy Shaq - who is also owed 20 mil a year for the next two years.

$21 mil in a decent scorer in Marion, who could come off the books this year if he opts, and Banks

I don't like either for the money, but if I HAD to take one on it would be the latter.

Riley is hoping Marion opts out but I think it's unlikely. There is no other team that's going to be paying him $17 million next year. He'll be lucky if his next contract pays him $10 million a year. But, I think it's still a prudent move by Riley and the Heat. There's no way they were going to improve that roster in the next two years with Shaq's contract. They have too many holes on that roster. Now, at least Marion covers a forward spot. And, if they can get a point guard like Rose or a center like DeAndre Jordan, then at least they have pieces to be better 2-3 years down the line.

The Suns are paying Shaq $48.3 million. At worst, the Heat are going to pay Marion $24.4 million if he doesn't opt out this summer, and $15.1 million for a guy they're going to need to replace Jason Williams.

Marion's stupid and and conceited enough to think he will get a huge payday, and I would not be surprised to see him opt out, and then see Riley throw him a token low-ball.
