Popovich said he is hopeful injured point guard Tony Parker can return to the lineup before the end of the month.

Parker, nursing a sore left heel that left him, in Popovich's estimation at "60 or 70 percent," did not accompany the Spurs on the six-game eastern leg of the team's rodeo road trip.

"I'm hoping he can return after the All-Star break," Popovich said. "We'll see how quickly he can progress."

Parker has not played since a Jan. 28 loss at Utah.

One man happy with that turn of events was Washington coach Eddie Jordan, against whose team Parker scored 29 points and doled out 11 assists in the Spurs' 109-94 victory in November at the AT&T Center.

"We made a lot of highlight films that night," Jordan said.

I guess it's good news that Parker could return to action in less than two weeks. This is the first time Pop has given it any type of time table.

Although, I kinda wish the Spurs would give him more time off. If he comes back for the first game after the All-Star game, he will have had three weeks to rest the ankle. That doesn't really sound like enough time to fully recover from even a moderate ankle injury.

The worst scenario is Pop brings him back too soon. I'd rather Pop bring him back a week or two too late than too soon. I like the idea of keeping him out a minimum of one month and having his earliest return date be Feb. 28 against the Mavs.

The Spurs ain't winning no championship with that hobbled version of Parker we saw for six weeks.

I'm quite confident to see Parker back just after the ASG.
I'm not a doctor, but 3 weeks of rest + treatment seem to be enough to remove any swelling from his ankle.

I agree with the idea of resting TP til his ankle has fully recovered. With the way the spurs played with jack and damon manning the pg, i think it would be prudent to rest TP. Maybe, Pop thinks that this injury is not that serious, so TP need not rest that long. Common, Pop, TP played badly the last few games with his injury.

It's a kinda stupid thing to say.
If Parker is fully healthy after the ASG, there are no reason to rest him.

Eh, Stoudamire is filling in well, and the Stoudamire addition has lit a fire under Vaughn's ass apparently, so why not sit him till Dallas.

sit him till the beginning of March.

Worse thing that happens is he takes a couple games to get back into the flow of things.

Not too early Pop, no need to panic.

"there are no reason to rest him."

one Brent Barry relapse per season is one too many.

Keep Tony out. Itching to get back, he'll come back in like gangbusters.

Imagine where we'd be if he comes back after ASB and his ankle starts hurting again in the following couple weeks. He'd be out again and we'd be bumping into the playoffs.

Hopefully Parker comes back healthy enough and ready to torch teams again....
I'm already starting to notice his absence in the halfcourt.
Tim and Manu seem to be adjusting a little bit better with the help of the two backups, but still...I'll feel a lot safer with our three-headed monster back in the mix.
