    GOP Blocks Stimulus

After losing a key vote that shreds the bipartisan truce that prevailed over the economic stimulus package in the House, Senate Democrats will be forced to backpedal and either work with Republicans or risk being accused of delaying a crucial jolt to the ailing economy.

The Senate fell just one vote short Wednesday of the 60 needed to cut off a Republican filibuster and force through the Democratic stimulus bill, which had billions more for energy initiatives, senior citizens and disabled veterans than the House bill contained.

The political dance carried out by Democratic leaders over the past few weeks on the $146 billion economic package amounted to a good cop, bad cop routine. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) won almost universal praise for cutting a deal with Republicans on a simple rebate package. Then Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) quickly earned widespread ire from Republicans as he forced a vote on an economic bill much more expansive than what Republicans would accept.

This is why we need someone like McCain or Obama who can bring the sides together.

How about no government at all? That is the least. Would that be good?

I'm sure that doesn't include our military and the war against terror.

They were together until the dimms in the Senate wanted
to load the bill up. Like give rebates to illegals.

What you mean is someone who will cave to the
liberals, right? How bout they reach out to the
conservatives. Would that be okay? thought not!

Soooo, what is McCain if not a conservative?

Annnd, if he is anything other than a conservative, than brother, you are vastly outnumbered by people different than you in your own party.

    That must really suck.

Everytime they reach out to conservatives they get denied because God forbid any conservative work with a liberal. Just ask Rush and Sean what that will get you.

The libs took a perfectly good bill from the house and tried to add stuff to it. At least the senate republicans have a little self-control.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Americans anxiously awaiting rebate checks have had a good look in the past week at how things work in the Senate: "complicated, laborious and slow."

But he commended Democrats for, at long last, coming around.

"We will demonstrate we were able to put aside our differences... to make an important statement that we are concerned about the slowing of our economy and able to do something about it quickly," McConnell said.

If you made between 3,000 and 75,000 (150,000 for couples), or are a senior or disabled vet, youll get your money.

The Dems were trying to double the max income that got the rebate, extend unemployment benefits, and toss on a couple other things that were completely unacceptable to the Republicans. A lot of the Dems proposals, as usual for them, would have mostly benefitted unionized workers, but there were a couple decent things in there that got cut.

That is blatantly incorrect. The rebate to illegals problem was related to the wording in the House bill that passed, not something the Senate Dims tried to put in.

They unblocked by not extending unemployment and by not helping with heating oil.

But gave $1T to super-rich in estate tax cuts.

so the conservatives want to give everyone a check...and the liberals are stopping them from doing so?

    I'm confused
No, the liberals want to give everyone a check, and the conservatives only want to give it to the poor.

You know, people like you are useless communist worshippers.

    "gave $1T to super-rich"

My God... You sound like all the wealth belongs to the government, and any taxes they don't take are subsidies to the people.

    Are you really that dumb?

The government should not be giving away other peoples money. That is thievery!
