Jason Kapono is a younger and healthier than Barry. He is the only player I'd like the Spurs to go after if they let Barry go. Barry was shooting lights out before the calf injuries. I know getting a big like Kurt Thomas would require Elson and Barry for salaries to match. I don't like that idea very much because we need someone who can hit the three consistently. Kapono would give you that. His contract is the only thing that I don't like, but his contract matches Barry's contract.

He's pretty much a younger Barry. He doesn't defend well just like Barry. I think Barry handles the ball better though. Kapono flourished with Shaq. Shaq drew double teams and kicked it out to Kapono and he would nail the three. Tim can do that. He would prevent teams from double teaming Tim.
If it was a 2 year commitment past this year, sure. 3 feels too long and could change some other plans.

Spurs need to upgrade their frontline for better players than Oberto and Elson. Aside from that, you got All Star calibur players in Parker, Ginobili, and Duncan. Stoudamire is servicable.
Agreed. I think the Spurs need someone in the post to help Duncan out on defense, but if Barry isn't going to comeback from the injury or if he does, but isn't as good as he was playing, then trading for a younger Barry would not be a bad idea.

There is pretty much no situation in which I'd take Kapono over Barry. Barry shoots just as well, handles the ball better, has a higher bball IQ, moves better without the ball, passes better, can play backup PG, and has a cheaper contract.
Kapono is younger and healthier, but unless the trainers expect Barry to be unavailable for the playoffs I expect we will keep him.
No way. Just what the spurs need another perimeter player just standing around the 3 point line. Enough of that crap. Lets get some playmakers who can create some offense by taking it to the rim.
No. Obviously the spurs are not in dire need of more 3 point shooters. But Kapono isn't just another three point shooter, he's one of the best in the league, and with Tim Duncan, 3 point shooters on the Spurs have more than their fair share of good looks.
Plus he is younger. It has to be decided if Barry's ball handling, passing, and point-guard abilities would be worth the trade off for a better, younger 3 point specialist. With the addidition of Stoudamire, it seems there are more than enough capable ball handlers on the team now, though.
This just sounds like a more realistic trade idea than "Trade Manu for Kobe!" or the "Trade Duncan for Dwight Howard!" garbage. Thats all I meant.
ESPN Trade Machine has Kapono only having two more years on his contract. Everything else I've seen has him with three years left on his contract, but ESPN is usually right in these situations.
If Kapono has only two more years, he'd make sense for the Spurs. He's overpaid but he can shoot and his contract would be ending at the right time. The Raptors would likely let him go for just an expiring contract.
Barry for Kapono makes sense depending on Kapono's contract. But flipping a great shooter who's career might be over for another great shooter who is a decade younger is pretty much a no-brainer. Kapono doesn't do everything Barry can do but he's arguably an even better shooter.
The Spurs have Finley and Barry as free agents this summer and I don't think one of those will be back, if not both. There will be some holes to fill going forward. Seeing as how the Spurs have been linked to interest in Korver and Childress they are clearly taking a look at what swingmen are available.
Wasn't his deal a four-year deal worth around $24-25 million? If so, after this season he will have three left. Its kind of long and the Spurs might not want that.
Maybe there's an option on that final year. It'd have to be a team option to see the Spurs being interested.
I would not commit to Kapono's contract, because all he does is shoot 3s.
We can find our usual veteran minimum player to be a 3-point specialist.

Yeah, I think there's a possibility of that. If that is indeed the case, Kapono would be a likely trade target.
Everything I read is that he has a four-year deal with no option.
I prefer players over specialists.

If his deal didn't mess with the latest cap scheme, or if he could do even one more thing on the court in addition to shooting I would do it.
