two words. new car
ok so tuesday night after finishing school, i go to my car, put it in reverse, and found out that not only reverse, but all the gears arent working (i drive an automatic, by the way.) then i figure out that transmission fluid has been leaking all night. me and a friend are planning on tightening the pan and refilling it in last efforts to recessitate the car tomorrow. will days without fluid in a transmission further its fate on recovering the car? thanks!
(p.s. i drive a 1990 plymouth sundance, and it has about 48,000 miles.)

It's possible that the reason you can't get the car into gear is that in the absence of transmission fluid, all the gears in the transmission are now nubs, in which case your vehicle is essentially deceased.
how can a 17 yr old car only have 48,000 miles on it????
Are you a 96 yr old person?
Dude - my thoughts exactly?? What salesman made you over?
I think he said that it had a brand new engine in it.
Chances are all that fluid didn't leak out overnight and you have been driving it with little or no fluid in it till it burned up. A new tranny will probably cost more than the car is worth unless you luck out and find a used one at pic-n-pull. Those transverse engine front wheel drive cars are a to put a tranny in.

You should learn to check the fluids regularly so you don't kill your next car. It's not rocket science.
Why are they called Sundancers ? Who the can dance on the sun?
Your looking at a new transmission, and its not cheap.

Put some Fluid it in, it should shift.
A gasket more than likely failed
