Before all these teams play eachother how do you think these elite teams each team would stack up against eachother. These are my rankings. What are yours?

    The Teams:
1)Lakers - I see the Lakers beating each team below
2)Spurs - I see the Spurs beating each team below
3)Pistons - The team to beat in the East
5)Celtics - I'd love to see a Lakers Celtics finals, but Detroit may spoil
4)Mavs - Once Kidd gets use to the team I think they will be compe ive
6)Cavs - 2nd best trade after the Gasol trade
7)Hornets - No experience to go far in the playoffs
    8) Rockets - McGrady can't carry a team
    9)Suns - Bad move,

Swap 1 and 2 and you're on the mark. Gasol and a healthy Bynum elevated the Lakers to legit contenders, but Kurt Thomas I think cinched the West for San Antonio. They have the bigs to match up with any team in the west.

I respect your opinion, but I'll keep 1 and 2 the same. Can't wait for Lakers/Spurs either. Hopefully Bynum will be back and in good form by then.

If we sign Magloire, then that puts us in the top three for sure.

You think so? I hope you are right, but our offense can be completely non existent sometimes (which is scary considering we have a big 3)

And I agree on the Maglore comment, he would be a very very solid pickup for you guys.

It's almost to the point where I don't even know WHO I want SA to get in the first round. Maybe the rockets? Though they've played well against us this season.

The way the West is this year there's really no need to worry about who you're going to draw, it's going to be a stout team.

Rockets don't belong. Good for their winning streak. Blazers had one too. Woohoo.

    Suns- I dont know yet.
Mavs- I don't know yet (depends if they strengthen their C position, if not, they little chance)

The top 4: Spurs, Lakers, Pistons, Celtics.

    No it doesn't.

    Boston
    Spurs
    Lakers
    Detroit
    Suns
    Rockets

    Mavs/Hornets/Jazz/Cavs
Mavs> Suns and Rockets right now, you clearly are unfamiliar with Dallas' complete and utter ownage of Houston the last three years. If we get a decent backup C for Dampier, we're no worse than Boston. Sorry, take off your hater glasses for just a second. We have an outside shot at a le right now, and if we get the backup C we need after Diop's departure, we have as good a shot as anybody.

Im on board with a 16 team tourney. I know the NBA's concern with that is travel, but I think the ratings would really jump! You'd have historic teams like Lakers/Celtics facing eachother in playoff rounds that are not the championship round. You'd have Spurs/Detroit old school series. Suns/Cavs. Cavs/ Nuggets? Rockets/Orlando(Dwight/Yao) And you would truly get the 2 best teams in the finals. Lakers/Spurs anybody? The matchups would be awesome!

If it weren't for the injury woes of the last three weeks, we'd be #1 in the West easy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Rockets win against New Orleans was the only win against a legitimately elite team in the league during their win streak. The streak is impressive nonetheless, but as mentioned the Blazers had a similar win streak and it was in large part due to a heavy home schedule against mostly bad teams or average teams.

    Mavs/Cavs
    Toronto/Utah
    Utah/Celtics
    Lakers/Magic
    Lakers/Detroit
    Boston/Spurs

    ........possibilities are awesome

You have zero chance of getting past the Spurs or Lakers so what do you mean you are le contenders? I'll put you ahead of the Rockets, Jazz, and Hornets in the West if that makes you happy. You still can't beat Boston or Detroit if somehow the Lakers and Spurs drop out. Picking up Magloire doesn't put you on par with Boston. That just makes you possibly third best behind the Spurs and Lakers in the West but I'll give you a generous 5th overall although I'm doing it just to amuse you.

I don't know, I think the Mavs will be a factor playoff time, after Kidd is acclimated. I don't put much stock into what happened "last season" or in "previous seasons" thats why the game is played. New Year, new chance.

your compete and utter ownage of houston just ended when u trade away Devin Harris, one of the rocket killers on ur team. My Rockets has totally dominated Kidd ever since Yao and TMac joined the rockets. and i cant imagine u are counting on Dampier or Bass to stop Yao

the OP got the rankings right except the top 2 spots and Cavs does not belong in there.

I think you forget Dirk (most people call him "Skirt") is a wuss bag with two epic choke jobs under his belt, "Skirt" I mean. Dampier is a bum and you have no front line. Do you expect to somehow get past the Spurs front line or the Lakers front line? Kobe by himself has owned the Mavs during the regular season and that was with Kwame Brown and Smush Parker. Keep on dreamin Mavs have an outside chance.

The Mavs have clearly not been going full-out. All of their critics have been screaming about how the regular season doesn't ultimately matter, and they have responded, from Avery limiting his top players minutes early in the season to messing around and not settling on a set rotation. We were humming along until about a month ago when Devin, Stack and then Dampier and Josh all went out with injuries. That East Coast Road Trip with Eddie Jones at SG and JJB at PG is not reflective of a healthy Dallas team come playoff time.

The Lakers and Spurs are playing better than the Mavs RIGHT NOW, but our season doesn't begin until April 20th. I am impressed with the Lakers, but it's folly to say Dallas has zero chance to beat them or San Antonio. I wouldn't lay money in Vegas on the Mavs over San Antonio or Detroit, but I like our chances just as well as Boston or the Lakers.

    I love Kelly Dwyer:

No, the Mavs will be better because they were already a championship-level team to begin with, one that was playing below expectation and limiting the minutes of its best players. That stops, now.
If I were to rank the le contenders, I'd do it this way, no particular order:

First Group: San Antonio and Detroit
Second Group: LA, Dallas and Boston
Third Group: Phoenix, Cleveland, Utah, Houston, New Orleans

Rest of the League: You don't matter

Sorry, you're a troll, the Lakers rule and are #1, no other discussion necessary!

That's the rep he's earned in this league and even choked in the all star game. What do you mean insults? Are you disputing the choker factor?
