The Republican Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States of America, along with the Democratic Party. It is often referred to as the Grand Old Party or the GOP. The current U.S. President, George W. Bush, is the 18th Republican to hold office. Republicans currently fill a minority of seats in both the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, hold a minority of state governorships, and control a minority of state legislatures. It is currently the second largest party with 55 million registered members, encompassing roughly one third of the electorate.

The Republican Party includes fiscal conservatives, social conservatives, and libertarians. The Republican Party is the more socially conservative and economically libertarian of the two major parties. The party generally supports lower taxes and limited government in most economic areas allowing for more economic freedom.

Once a Democratic stronghold, Texas recently became known as a rock-ribbed Republican state dominated by social and fiscal conservatism regardless of party affiliation. The cons uency of Texan 22nd Congressional district is one such race which had a Republican leadership for a span of 20 years, before it was broken last year when a Democrat won from this district. The Texas 22nd Congressional District covers a south-central portion of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area. It includes the cities of Rosenberg and La Marque as well as portions of Missouri City and Pearland, in Fort Bend, Harris, Galveston, and Brazoria counties. The district is going for a re-election. There are many known names standing for election in this cons uency. This includes former Sugar Land mayor Dean Hrbacek , former Pasadena mayor John Manlove, former John Cornyn Chief of Staff Pete Olson, Family District Judge Jim Squier, State Representative Bob Talton, and NASA contractor Ryan Rowley.

    "economically libertarian"

... as long as the Repug elites are hauling in the 100s of $B.

When the Repug elite has some $$ problems, the Repugs insist on the govt bailing them out.

example: Robert Rubin/CitiGroup wants a bailout with federal tax $. I'm sure dubya will give it to him.

oh-well. I cant wait till Barak Hussein Obama levels the playing
field and we are all standing in line to get all the basics, like
health care, gasoline (if you still have a car), food and the rolling
black outs can let you watch the latest government pronouncements
on TV. Then SA210, boutons and others on this forum will be
completely happy, right! You will all be en led to all the great
things with one little problem. It is no longer available. Well
except to the political elite. You poor simple, simple folks.
There are no free lunchs. That is the truth. Pure and simple.
Oh, and don't forget the CEO's will not be making all that money.
Wonder why he doesn't point out all those Hollywood types
who support him that make the millions. Wonder why?

I am in a bad mood today. I keep hearing all this junk from
both sides of the political spectrum and it really angers me.

I get so disgusted with our young. They have no idea about our
country, and in only one generation. I guess I have to accept some blame. Too much, too soon. All the younin's want what
the old folks have "now". Sorry, it doesn't work that way and
the damn government cant give it to you or correct the
mistakes you make in your life. People get rich and they also
get poor. Why? Because that is life and life happens. There
has never been a government that can give you the "good life".
It just cant. Why? Government is a non-profit organization.
They only generate money one way: Taxes. And to get those
funds they have to have someone that is producing those
taxes. You, me and your friends. And how do we do that, we
work. Gee, isn't that amazing. And who do we work for, well
people like Exxon and Mortgage companies and all those
mean old defense contractors and the local guy who cuts trees,
runs restaurants, fixes the old A/C. Get the picture? Charley
Gonzales, Mr. Rodriguez, and Barak Hussein Obama and Hillary
Clinton cant take care of you without the producers. That is a
fact. Like it or not. So get a job, work like us old folks for some
years, take care of you, your family save some money and you
can have the good life. How do I know, I did it.

I'm back. I agree with McCain -- it's a stupid practice. Of course I predicted all this back in November.

Oh, government generates revenue by other means other
than taxes or so called fees, which is an other ways of
    saying taxes. Don't think so.

The big change people want is an about face of the Bush policies of the last 7 years. People are fed up with him and the inability of conservatives to run government. If there were recall elections at the federal level, I guarantee you W would have been recalled in 2005. The public had buyer's remorse almost immediately after he was re-elected.

There are volumes that could be written about what change but in a nuts , the country is sick to death of George W. Bush and cannot wait for his presidency to be over.

He has the misfortune of being named after his father who did not come from this country and was a Muslim. The right is going to call the guy by his full name from now on in hopes of getting some traction with the dead enders who actually believe the e-mails that they get that he some sort of "Manchurian candidate" or a closet Muslim or whatever. It will work too, after all some riduculous number of Fox viewers think Saddam had weapons of mass destruction to this day.

I heard Mike Gallagher being coy about why can't he say the guy's middle name. He can but expect to be called on what it is. It's a dog whistle signal to the soft headed who are gullible enough to believe the name means something threatening.

You can bet your bottom dollar on that when it comes to
politics. You cant stand the heat, then get out of kitchen.
He doesn't want to be called a Liberal, which is what he is,
he doesn't like his picture shown, and "some" think he
should not be called his name. Hey, he make the decision.
Now he has to live with it. Oh, let's not forget, he
doesn't like being associated with the Illinois political
    machine.

After all, he is black and he talks a good game and
he is from a minority of a minority. I mean this
guy is a minority-minority. You just don't want to
point all this out, now do you. Give me a break. He
is a damn liberal politician, pure and simple. Black,
White or indifferent he is what he is. And he loves our
    enemies. God Bless America.
