Truly one of the worst-written columns I've seen in a long time, even by sports writing standards.
But worse than the broken English is the dead brain behind it, as in his answer here:
Q: I heard a national TV announcer say that the top 16 teams regardless of their conference should make the playoffs. Since the West is so strong, does that make sense to you?
— Dom, Philadelphia
A: No. This is the whining that goes on when there's an imbalance. Baseball has two leagues; so does football. It will even out. ....The NBA works fine with conferences, and if you can't make it to eight, you don't deserve to be in the playoffs anyway.
Um, mister dumb ? The whole point is there are crap teams (in the East, these days) that shouldn't be wasting our time being the playoffs while there are good team in the West that would be much better. And I cut it out above, but he raised the fact that a while ago the East had most of the good teams. And ... so? What does that prove? Both conferences should have equal opprotunity crappiness?
They should definitely just take the top 16 teams and seed them regardless of conference. It would make for some fun new matchups come playoff time. For example, if they did that today, the first round of the playoffs would be:
Boston vs. Wash
Hou vs. Utah
NO vs. Denv
SA vs. TOR
Phx vs. GS
LA vs. Cleveland
Dall vs. Orl
Det vs. Portland
