Stein, ESPN.com
How many sixth men in the league can claim to be a legit MVP candidate ... and maybe even this season's most dependable player on a team that also employs Tim Duncan?
Right.
As one Western Conference scout quipped when I told him I wasn't sure if I should go with Ginobili here: "He might be the best sixth man ever."

Manu would be starting on most other NBA teams, we are lucky to have the option for him to start or come off the bench.
That's awesome...BUT Manu is not a 6th man...
I think all the coaches and the NBA players know this...fans of other teams might be too ignorant to realize this...
Manu comes off the bench in order to create instant spark and Finley does better as a starter...so it's more to help the team as a whole...
STILL, it's a nice praise.
^that's why I hope that he doesn't win the 6MOY award. It's a useless award anyways and like Manu said your either the best or your not. How many more games does he have to start before he's disqualified for it.
dETleF ScHreMPf.......
Havlicek and Schrempf might have something to say about that....
He plays starters minutes. The fact that he comes off the bench most games is irrelevant. If you make the All-Star team you are not a 6th man.
I don't doubt that Manu is the best 6th man in the game right now.
But Stein's column also suggests that Chris Paul should win DPOY on the basis of his 3 steals per night. I guess that getting 3 steals makes a player a great defender even if the effort to get those steals creates opportunities for opponents to score easily.
steals = stats; stats = defense, I guess.
This is why Bruce Bowen's career will end with the utter robbery of his never having won defensive player of the year.
the bench is the bench, no matter how long you play
HE GOT SNUBBED FROM THE ALL STAR GAME!!!

Has there ever been a sixth man who's an All Star? I think only Manu...
dETleF ScHreMPf.......
Kevin McHale
Michael Cooper
Bobby Jones
Junior Bridgeman
Frank Ramsey
Vinnie Johnson
Fred Brown
Thanks for the info. That's a nice list there.![]()
Actually, that wasn't meant to be an answer to your question.
Looking it up, Bridgeman, Vinnie Johnson, Ramsey, and--amazingly--Michael Cooper were never All-Stars.
YES MANU IS!!! WE LOVE YAAAA MANU, FOREVER!!!
GO SPURS!! GINOBILIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!![]()

I think it's pretty safe to say that Manu is the best player in NBA history.
A.C. Green
You don't think he's the best player in any sport at any time? Are you some kind of Manu hater?
